I've always known that drinking alcohol can have pretty negative effects on the results youll see from working out..both trying to gain and lose weight...but you also hear that red wine is good..and a couple of drinks a week arent too bad..

just looking for a few opinions on the subject.

its not so much the drinking as it is the drunk eating, and 12 hour sleep that follows where you get no protein and the day after workout is less than 100%

Alcohol can lower Testosterone which is essentially for building muscle and regulating your metabolism. This is why most athletes try to stay away from it during training because Test is needed day in and day out.

But yea aside from the scientific reasoning behind avoiding it, it does lead people into making poor health decisions. Not to mention the mixers and add-ins people may use when drinking. Whether its Soda, Juice, Sugar filled mixers, etc. all these things carry empty calories and are just not good for you when combined.

If your gonna drink try to minimize the mixing and use water if possible to chase drinks. None of these Long Island Ice Teas, Blue Motorcycles, or Amaretto Sours lol.

yeah, i have heard about it lowering testosterone....which could def hurt while your lifting/training...

and i agree with the above post as well...in the past i have eaten terrible after a night of drinking...and never hit the gym the next day...

i have since made a few changes...been an occasional light beer or glass or wine for the past month or so..

any direct implications on fat loss?

LC and big H are on point (as usual).

that drunk eating is a motherfukker.. nothing good can come from it.. it's just as bad, if not worse, than smoking herb and pigging out w/ the munchies.

another thing about alcohol and health/fitness - we all know drinking is bad for your liver blah blah blah, but understand, your liver has SO many vital functions that are either directly or indirectly related to overall fitness: it regulates toxins, glucose levels, metabolism, etc..

if you're punishing your liver by drinking, you should at least be doing cleanses for the liver/gallbladder/colon, etc.

Let me get a second of your time to instill the tid-bit of knowledge i have on the matter and how to avoid this nasty habit most of us 20 somethings indulge in.

Without sounding mad trite and redundant at this phase in the thread... i'll take another approach and say this - although we are all aware of the consequences and the correlation between excessive alcohol consumption and fitness; the best way to avoid this is being in a relationship.

If y'all cats who go out and socialize with your boys and whatnot, 10 out of 10 times there is alcohol involved. Men who have girlfriends don't necessarily have to consume spirits/brew to enjoy their time with somebody. On the other hand... IT'S ALMOST A PART OF KICKIN' IT REGIMEN TO INCORPORATE THE USAGE OF ALCOHOL TO ENHANCE INTERACTION EXPERIENCE!

In theory, men who work out much most often times than not are NOT in relationship; they are hitting the gym to impress the opposite sex. This ties in to the fact that they want to strut their new physiques at venues where alcohol is typicaly served (bars, lounges, clubs, pubs, house parties, company gatherings, etc.).

When you have a boo to call your own... you can avoid all such outings.

A girlfriend is a healthy alternative to simply trying to neglect your friends and alcohol together. At least with a bytch, you have every reason to get with your boys cuz yous a simp - therefore, you're avoiding spending money on drinks, not working out due to late night conquests/socializing, eating chinese/fastfood at 3 a.m. and not hit the weights the day after due to fatigue and feeling lethargic.

If you got a bytch and still committing to your usual routine to partying and not doing what it do to maintain pository upkeep on health/fitness... you need to step up your broad game.

Women are an inspiration for almost everything a man does, i know. Just make sure she understands your regimen. If you do choose to go out, have only a few drinks (binging, especially, is the worstest), and don't eat that crap post-partying...

Remember you got steak and potatoes at home.

One more thing you can avoid whilst being in a relationship, your odds of being promiscuous hinders as well. You think you just taining your appearance with the booze and cheeseburgers... naw, you an aids alley.

Sometimes... it just pays to simp.

Fukk with me.

Beer does contain antioxidants! ^^/

But when I stop drinking it, I lose weight almost immediately. Even 1-2 per night catches up eventually. That's like an extra day's worth of calories a week. Now I don't drink every night, but I dont always stop at 2, either.

The key to everything in life is moderation. I don't see anything wrong with having a few of drinks on the weekend (FRI OR SAT NOT BOTH). I'm guessing you're a dude so you don't need the sweet shyt (man up nicca). A few shots of Bacardi 151 or Patron should put you where you need to be. If you work or go to school and workout man you need to unwind on the weekend. I don't remember anyone in here trying to compete in any bodybuilding comps so don't let this type of stuff consume your social life.

I agree. Theres really nothing wrong with drinking abit once in a while. Once a week is ok, I would say. Im not big on alcohol but I do drink once in a while. But mostly just once a week or once every two weeks. And as far as alcoholic drinks I usually just stay with vodka or beer(heineken, carlsberg)
