pomegranates are dope. ive been eating them for years. now alot of people are starting to notice them because of the new found health-tip. i like them alot, but they may not be for everyones taste. id say its kind of in between a cranberry and a raspberry. they arent really sweet, but arent bitter. they apparently have crazy antioxidants in them, and i can imagine alot of fiber as well.
best way to pick them is pick the largest, and heaviest one you can find (ive only seen them sold by the piece, not by lb). our (the US) early winter is when they are at their peak, so you can find them for about 2 beans a pop or so. they are kind of a pain in the ass to peel and get to the seeds, and they will stain, so heads up. ive read if you got a sink, fill it with water, and if you tear it apart under water, the seeds will float to the top. i just cut into half of it, and then start to take out the seeds by hand.
i use them in a good amount of cooking while theyre in season also...
def try them out. i pick up a couple a week myself...

i love using them in cooking, too. also in cocktails, they're super pretty because they look like little jewels.
when i peel mine, i score it and then pull it apart so i don't disturb the seeds. i do that in quarters, then i just sorta invert the skin and let the pulp fall out. never tried the water thing, but maybe i will. i would imagine the seeds would sink though, and the remaining crap would be what floats.

ive made a couple drinks using them. im not into many of the fruitier drinks, but if im entertaining ill take some champagne or sparkling white, a dash of juice, then a couple seeds on top. i guess some vodka and juice would be good as well...
i try to score them also, but then when breaking it apart, they burst and get all over. so i just cut a quarter off, then start ripping it apart. ive never tried the water thing, but thats the way ive heard people doing it...
what other health-tips you been up on? im still tempted to get some type of acai...

I have about 6 permanently stained shirts in my closet that can attest to my love of pomegranate. usually the white ones are the sweetest and the darker ones more acidic and bitter. looks like life imitates fruit :inlove:

LOL
cokes, i have used them (POM) with pork (both tenderloin and chops), and in stew chicken & rice. i haven't tried them with beef, fish, etc yet. i want to, though. i was tempted to use them in my turkey this year, but opted out.
as far as dessert, i've used them in cobbler and muffins. and like i said, i LOVE 'em in drinks.

dood, i've been straying from healthy food since i moved to hawaii, where it's like.. a whole new WORLD of food for me to explore.. still getting in my daily green tea, antioxidants, vitamins and supplements.. but as far as actual FOOD goes, i've been pretty awful. the curries, noodles, and meats are plentiful here, and all that gravy is always served with 2 scoops of (white) rice.. not diet-friendly at all.. which is prolly why there are mad overweight people here.
sigh..
acai in the form of concentrated juice (mona vie) is the best. if you see it in pill form, don't even bother.

But how do you dodge the seeds when using it to cook?
I have a hard enough time just eating the fruit itself b/c of those darn seeds...
