its true
RTD takes a huge shyt on LAD
LAD was biggie's IWW so to speak (much better than nas' shyt though)
it had some hard shyt like kick in the door and 10 crack commandments but a lot of shyt was blatantly commercial

I keep telling you sheep *****s classic is not a matter of one or two people's opinions.

There are like a slew of things that factor into an album's pronouncement of classic status. I blame The Source and all them stupid magazines fans be reading religiously. They don't understand that just because an album is given "5 mics" or "XXL" does not mean it's an instant classic. Those reviews are given more so as a claim on their part to the fans and potential listeners. Albums cannot be declared classics until a good amount of time has passed and there is complete (or at least 90%) unanimity and harmony in the consensus of it being a classic Hip-hop record. Polls could be a very good indicator of the what the general public thinks in regards to a classic claim, seeing as a bunch of people come on here and its undoubtedly a good representation.

The opinions of millions of fans > some bummy review board.

$hyt is a real good album but it aint no classic. if you combined both discs of LAD and made em into one album it STILL wouldn't be better than ready to die.

YaBoyMike969
11-29-07, 10:57 PM
It's a very good album don't get me wrong, and if they trimmed the fat and made it a single album it coulda been better, but the album was too all over the place to be a classic. There wasn't no consistency, he was tryin to please too many crowds, like "****in You 2nite" and "Last Night" don't sound right 2gether... Ready To Die atleast he followed that theme through the album.

Plus: "The World is Filled", "Player hater", "Nasty boy", "Another", "My Downfall" were str8 filler

Too much average material to be classic

Threads like this show you when people started listening to hip hop. the mood of hip hop back then, the atmosphere when albums dropped. their impact on the genre fans n other rappers.

I mean this was before the concept of a universal rapper existed to the extent of today. big tried to accomodate many styles, which many rappers didnt do before... from storytelling to party to loss, to hardcore and he did so with ease.

and All eyes on me, is another classic.

these two albums should never be denied their classic status, whether u like em or not is up to you, but to deny that these two albums were monumental when they dropped is not only idiotic and childish, but revisionist history.

the thing about classics is that you aint gotta like every single track on them, some people like what others see as filler. sometimes it takes a while to connect with certain songs. what a person likes at age 15 n what they gonna like 10 years down the line may change because of life experience. some people will like the melody of a song before they are impacted by the lyrics... its all subjective

people confuse the idea of a classic n masterpeice. a majority of classic are masterpeices but not every classic has to be one and not every masterpeice is a classic.

Life After Death was a club pop album with a couple of street tracks thrown in. Seriously..when it was time to jump off nobody was saying...hey play Life after Death to get hyped...........end of story.

This is not true. It's classic because of it's impact, but to mention it in the same building as AEOM is just crazy. It's not even close, if you go song by song. The whole 1st disc of AEOM is one long classic, full of songs you can hear anywhere in AMerica on any given day. Let's break it down by classic songs.

If you look at it, Life After Death has 10 classic songs on it, which makes it one of the greatest albums ever, but All Eyez on Me has 10 classics on the first disc, and 17 total. 17 classic songs on one record.

Now some of y'all are gonna disagree one a few songs, but these are the songs that have survived and remained all these years later and are still popular amongst most Hip-Hop fans.

It's a classic impact-wise, but that's it. Ready To Die is easily better
AEOM, Wu Forever > LAD
Exactly!!! ...."it's a classic impact wise" so theres no argument. It's classic. I still prefer ready to Die myself but for the time period it was released in, Life After Death gave the best of both worlds in delivering hardcore and commercial music. Dudes albums now are all filler. If Pac or Big didn't lay the album bluprint then they wouldn't be so emulated by just about every artist that came after them.
