naw man.. hes not a bitter at all... i guess you can say he was "shouting" them out, i mean he stole classic lines, and he knows that people would know that he stole them, but whatever it is, jay is still nasty man.. what pisses me off how he made big ls line sound like his... " **** love, all i got for *****es is hard **** and bubble gum"
"Whether pot or a jar
Whip it around,
It still comes back hard." - Jay Z - Blue Magic
"My name is Rakim Allah, and R & A stands for 'Ra',
Switch it around, but still comes out 'R'" - Rakim - My Melody
That's close enough to biting in my book.

That's a different story but a majority of the time he is completely out in the open with it..meaning that it's usually the first couple bars of his verse and it's something that the rap listener SHOULD know the origin. Giving tribute is cool but he does it a lot...a lot

Most people won't say he's biting, because of his legendary status.
I don't agree.
Why? Because the definition of biting since the onset of emceeing is that you don't take rhymes that don't belong to you and spit them. I mean, that's like a cardinal emcee rule - no stealing rhymes. It's an immediate discrediting if you do it.
And who gave this ***** the right to come along and change the definition of what biting is? "It's not biting, it's paying homage." **** that. **** is biting, *****. **** was biting when YOU were still Jaz's underling.
Think about it...nobody's ever gave that excuse for biting before.
And this ***** got away with it.
What kills me is...cats who still do rhymes online - whether writtens or audio - would scream "BITER!" if somebody took THEIR rhymes. They certainly wouldn't be cool with them saying they were just "paying homage."
It is what it is, essentially.

See the thing is. You say its paying homage.
But you also got to look at the OTHER side of Jay's fanbase who may not know the orgin of the lines he recites. It may come off as biting that he's taking a style and running with it and the people who may not have followed music from back in the day have no idea that "come, get some, you little bums" was Big Daddy Kane ...and etc.
Nor would they know the intro to the Blueprint was completely taken after Slick Rick, beat and everything.
I really like Jay, but his biting is easily the worst in the history of hiphop. If nearly ANY other emcee had done half the biting he's done people would be out for their heads.
If someone like 50 Cent, Game, Eminem, E-40, Fat Joe, Devin the Dude, etc. or someone did this, people would probably dismiss them from hiphop almost entirely but because Jay is popular and successful, people find a way to rationalize it.
This said, I still think Jay is one of the greatest, but there is NO WAY I could ever co-sign someone who does that much biting as the GOAT.
Another thing about Jay....
I really don't buy his "I don't write rhymes" story he always pushes out. I've seen him in multiple interviews contridict himself about when he stopped writing and whether he still does it. I heard he stopped writing rhymes after Reasonable Doubt, After BIG died, I've heard he both had to write for The Black Album and that he didn't write for the Black Album and on the real, I know he has had people ghostwrite for him in the past.
I think he does write his lyrics at times and sometimes freestyles, but the whole myth about him not writing anything is greatly exaggerated IMO. And its easy to not write rhymes when you are just flipping the lines of your favorite artists.

He's both. Jay is a great rapper and top ten in my book, but it is what it is. He bites and anyone who says differently isn't being real with themselves.

Taken from MTV:
...and Jigga’s flow on the track pays homage to Rakim.”
I was like, ‘Wow,’ ” Rakim said of “Blue Magic.” He was flattered by the tip of the cap. “Jay-Z, that’s my dude. For him to say, ‘So at that time I’m Rakim,’ that’s love right there. Jay, if you hear this, good lookin’. You’re inspiring me.”
Strange how Rakim says "good lookin'" and random internet people say it wasn't a good look. Why wasn't Rakim furious that he was bitten?
