The first part of the first book is pretty funny. Is the quality of the first book consistant with the rest of the series? I'd hate that this sh!t would get sucky as I read on.

the last 3 are a big connection, crazy storyI'm on page 125 and there's like a whole lot of foreshadowing in the book. I never seen this much in a fantasy series before. I'm writing a book too but my use of foreshadowing is a little different. I also realized my sh!t probably won't be as addictive to read as hers since mine is darker and not on some kiddie sh!t but oh well lesson learned. I'mma keep reading anyway. I'm debating on whether I should start watching the movies now or after I'm done the series. I seen one movie and it's aight but I also saw in the library how thick the books were so I'm guessing they left a lot of stuff out.

I tried getting a newspaper job. That sh!t sounds like fun. You get to travel a lot and interview folks. Writing a book like mine doesn't require travel because most of the stuff you just make up in ya head but it does help to travel cause then you'll have learned more. Unfortunately, you don't really get an opportunity to travel as much as you would like to until the whole thing is finished. I'm tired of this monk-mode sh!t.

You don't have to think as hard while reading Fiction. Non-fiction is supposed to be based on facts but sometimes those facts are really just someone else's perspective. Their perception, their facts, do not always represent the truth. That's something you always have to keep in mind while reading non-fiction. If not, you'll end up getting misled. With fiction, you don't have to be on guard as much from someone else's bullsh!t because you already know its not real. You don't have to think that hard at all unless the story is inspirational and insightful.

It's not negative..I just prefer informative reading at this point in life. I don't let books mislead me at all, and I like having to think hard. When I was younger I preferred reading fiction books. Fiction is for rainy days and long flights for me now. If I read fiction now, I prefer it to be short so I can get it out of the way quickly. Nothing against it...I'm actually interested in reading the Harry Potter series, which is why I asked for a listing of the books.

You like thinking hard? Man nothing makes you think harder than writing a book. You don't even have to write. You can think about the plot, mentally picturing character development and empathy to help with the dialogue and actions of your characters. To make it as realistic as possible, sometimes ya gotta study and observe everything about real life. Traveling and meeting people helps alot. You seem like you like to travel. That would be cool if you wrote a short story or something. That'll give u something to think about. Plus if its really good, you can get PAID!

Online encyclopedias aren't thorough enough.
It's true, writers usually have to do ALOT of research for their books.
LOL @ liking non-fiction more than fiction.
If you want non-fiction read Wikipedia
Harry Potter FTW though, read em all a bunch of times.

Yeah wiki be having a lot of bullsh!t on it but its still kinda fun to weed through and identify the false information.
For the record, I read the first two books, saw the first movie and that's as far as I got for now. The movie was kinda boring.

Last night I read a Time magazine article on J.K. Rowling. It it, she professes to be Christian. A church I used to go to had this pamplet that warned parents to keep their kids away from Harry Potter books and movies. In it, they claimed she was Wiccan and had this big explanation in it. They even complained about Pokemon.
So anyway, I wouldn't touch no fukking Harry Potter joints cause I thought she was Wiccan and I don't get down like that but after a couple years of working on the book I'm writing, I'm realizing that I'm in the same boat as she's in. Not that I'm Wiccan of course but the fact that it involves supernatural elements like magic and souls.
In the article she says something like 'I didn't set out to convert anyone to Christianity like C.S. Lewis did.' and how even when she was young she was very interested in spirituality and all that stuff. That reminded me of me. The only thing I didn't like about the article is that she says she's opposed to fundamentalism of any kind.

Another thing that I thought was interesting is that she said she didn't reveal her religion because she didn't want anyone guessing what would happen at the end. I think that was really smart. People do try to guess how a situation will play out just because they think they know your background. Man that was a really good interview. i like how she planned a single theme for the entire series out of that one bible verse about Jesus 'the last enemy that shall be destroyed is death'.
Jesus @ all the shout-outs Jesus be getting. I know Satan mad.
I'm still working on my theme. I don't have writer's block. I can write but it's not the same if I don't have theme. When writing an epic, the goal shouldn't be 'to get to the end' but 'to leave a lasting impression'. I have a lot of things I wanna impress upon the reader but I gotta wrap it up in one neat sentence. As a Christian, this is where my moral compass comes to play because the last thing I wanna do is mislead folks and leave them all sad and sh!t...

I remembered my theme just now. Sometimes I forget when I work on sub-plots too long. Being your own editor delays the writing process big time. Even if you try to do as much as you can on your own, you'll still mess up. Not everyone can catch their own mistakes. Writing is a humbling experience.

Humanism: What makes Man happy.
Fundamentalism: What makes God happy.
That's the main differences between the two. Humanism is instinctive to man but fundamentalism must be taught. J.K. Rowling said she is against fundamentalism in any form. This makes her a 'Tool of Satan'. The damage wrought by the anti-fundamentalism in her books cannot be undone. This is why she gets harassed so much and has to go into hiding from religious fanatics.
After reading her interview, I initially thought that what she did was noble but as I started concentrating my efforts on the character development portion of my book, I started to see the differences between my book and hers. Fundamentalists ain't gonna be mad at my stuff like they did with hers. I used to worry about that stuff but not anymore. The character development present in this book is unmatched in anything I've ever read. That's a big boast but I'm ten years into this and probably got 3 more years or so until I'm done writing just the first book alone. I don't mislead kids like she do. I just show some kick ass action while spitting da truth. My book is so hardcore I'm feeling untouchable like Rambo (http://forums.sohh.com/showthread.php?t=967957) right now. Concentrating on character development is partially why I'm retiring from SOHH.
Anyway, I'm bout 20 pages deep in her third book. I don't even feel like reading anymore of this sh!t. I'm too busy nowadays. When ever I do get around to it, I might write a long post about the whole series and how it compares to other fantasy epics that I've read.

Aight I just started on the last book. Book reviews on all 7 including the series as a whole will be posted later. Something I noticed. Horcruxes is nothing new to the fantasy genre. It's a plot device that's been used in other fantasy series such as Raymond E Feists Riftwar, Serpent War, Conclave of Shadows etc series. It's even been used in videogames. J.K. Rowling set up this plot device very well in her series.
Spoiler:
For those who don't know what a horcrux is. The bad guy in the series splits up his soul in several pieces so that he is hard to kill/immortal. To split up his soul he has to kill people. Then he puts the pieces of his soul in items like a diary for example. (The diary in book 2).

I finished the last book a couple minutes ago. It ended perfectly. I feel sorry for the screenwriter who has to convert the last book into a movie. Now I know why most authors aren't willing to butcher their own works like that.

really good series to read, especially easy for people who never really got into reading before, I listened to all the audio books and read the books...The books get darker and darker after the second book.
Book ended great, the epilouge left much to be desired though, I thought that was too typical and kinda butt cheeks....
but yea, the way some people get it in number 7 is pretty crazy

I've always been a closet science fiction/fantasy geek. I loved all of the Harry Potter books but if you want some really good reading, you should try the Ender's Game series.

Sike! I only read the first book. I tried reading the second one 'Speaker for the Dead' but it started out slow and I stopped reading it. The only other series I've totally read of Orson Scott Card's is Ender's Shadow series (the books that are about Bean), and The 7th Son series, the one based after the Civil War era of the United States.

Yeah they do start out slow, but I wanted to know what happened so I had to finish it. Reading reviews and spoilers isn't the same.
I feel deprived now though. I haven't gotten to do much reading for leisure because of school and work. I've been trying to read this book, Sex,Drugs and Cocoa Puffs which is kind of like a social commentary but I have yet to get past page 30 because of time restraints.

Not getting ya reading fix. I know how it feels. I have school and work too. Sometimes its hard scrounging in enough time to do what you want. Best time though is the weekends or late at night. There's nothing wrong with devoting a whole day off to reading cause thats not something you do everyday. Took me awhile to finish all the Harry Potter books cause I've been so busy. I don't wanna do these book reviews cause I got so many more important things on my plate like working on my own book. What part of Bama u from? I live in NW Florida. Ain't sh!t to do here.
