Prince>>>>>>>>>Micheal Jackson and Purple Rain>>>>>>Thriller.
The only things MJ does better than Prince is dancing and lyric writing. But Prince is a better songwriter, musician, and he puts albums out on a regular basis. MJ is only as good as the latest hot producer can make him. He's been the same since Off The Wall....:thumbsdow.
Discuss.....:argue:

Doesn't really need to be discussed. Prince.

Prince, hands down.
(What great lyrics did MJ write, anyway?)

You're not going to ignore all the crap Prince has put out over the last few years?

That shouldn't matter. If Mike could, he would do the same thing.... Actually, I'm pretty sure that it would be worse.
Thing is: Mike can't. Can't write and can't produce (at least not nearly as prolifically as Prince) and can't decide to put out a record anyway.

Prince is one of if not the most talented musicians of all time. He is a musical genius. Yes, he has not had commercial success lately, but how many artists do you know that you never hear a somg or see a video from and ZERO mainstream promotion and still top the Billboard charts. Prince has a real following. The boy is cold. Mike Jack is cold with it too, but he is not as talented a musician as Prince. Now where Wacko Jacko wins is on entertainment. He is by far the greatest entertainer ever. They are both great.

I never understand why people compare the two. Because they were big acts in the 80s? Because they both black and light skinned? In terms of musicianship Prince is far superior, as far as success goes then clearly Mike gets the nod. But the funny thing is, if you had told someone back then that Mike would be ****in with little kids and Prince would be relatively normal(Well, compared to Jackson anyways) then I bet people woulda laughed.

^ Shock post.
Well... to each his own. I suspect that anyone who has ever created great art alienated someone.
But still: Pop Life, Insatiable, Gett Off, Kiss, Let's Work, I Wanna Be Your Lover, Scandalous, on and on ??

LOL. SMH.
Prince by a long shot. Michael got nothin on dude. Only two CD's I still fukk with by Michael are Off The Wall and Thriller, everything else is either just decent (with a few hot tracks) or straight garbage.
"Dirty Mind," "Controversy," "Sign O The Times," "Purple Rain," "1999," "Emmancipation," "The Gold Experience," "Diamonds And Pearls," "Around The World In A Day," "Lovesexy," "Parade"..... How can all that be denied?
Hell, even more recently "3121" is a great album and better than anything Jacksons put out since "Bad" imo.

I prefer Michael over Prince but both are great. Prince is obviously the better musician, producer and songwriter but as an overall entertainer I say Michael is better. I think his performance of Motown 25 is the single greatest televized performance I have ever seen. Also Michael has a much better voice than Prince (anyone who knows about MJ's days with the Jacksons and I'm not just talking about the popular songs will tell u he used to be a great soul singer) and he is a better dancer as well. Prince is actually not a very good singer (though he has a great falsetto) and I think Michael's voice is slept on actually. I mean Michael was a child prodigy. He was soulful as a child and had an amazing voice. Anytime I listen to "Who's Lovin' You" I get goosebumps. He's always been so talented. I also think Michael is also more original and more innovative as well. Of course he took from James Brown, Jackie Wilson and others but I can't look back in the history of music and think of another performer who is like MJ. Yet, when I see Prince perform I think of Little Richard, James Brown, Rick James and Parliament. Mike is def. more orignal. One thing NO ONE can argue over though is the concept of music videos. Michael definitely wins over Prince in that category. I mean he pioneered the music video genre afterall. Also Michael is more influential. Not to say Prince aint influential but Michael is probably the most influential artist of his generation and for as great a musician and performer as Prince is (and I can say that Prince is in fact great because I've seen him live) he has never been able to capture an audience the way Michael has and connected with so many people of all races, ethnicities, religions, ages, etc. like MJ's been able to. When I see performances of MJ at his peak in the 70's and 80's, I truly don't think there is a performer before or after who can touch him. He is just amazing. He's revolutionzed music, dance, fashion and music videos. There will never be another as great as Michael.
I think these comparisons should really stop though because Prince is a musician. Prince should be compared to people like Hendrix and Rick James, not Michael Jackson. I don't know why people continue to compare these two.
Oh but for the record I think Mike is a better songwriter than people give him credit for. No, he's not as good as Prince or Stevie Wonder of course but he's written some good stuff like "Billie Jean" and "Stranger In Moscow". He's written most of his "big" songs. I mean there's a reason why Michael Jackson is in the songwriters hall of fame. I'm a fan of both though, but I've just always liked Michael better and I always will.

Too many people sleep on Prince's showmanship and this post proves that again. Prince puts on AMAZING live shows. And yeah, Michael isn't a bad writer.... but I seriously doubt he would've been as big as he was if it weren't for the people behind him (Liek Quincey Jones).
And comparing their influences is pushing it. Michael jackson was a straight up pop artist. Period. Prince has explored so many different types of music and continues to till this day.

I am not overlooking Prince as a performer. The man is amazing live. Like I said before I've seen him in concert and thought he was one of the greatest performers i've ever seen, but I just think Michael is still overall a better performer and also Michael is not strictly a pop artist at all. That statement right there proves that you do not know too much about Michael Jackson. Before Michael was a pop artist, he was a soul/r&b aritst. Michael is one of the few artist whose been successful in almost every genre. He's been sucessful in pop, rock, r&b and has experimented with hip hop, new jack swing and classical music on his albums. If you think Michael is just "Off The Wall" and "Thriller" like most of u in this thread seem to believe then you are mistaken and sure Prince has explored different musical genres more than Michael has, but still MJ is not strictly a pop artist at all. He's not as one dimensional as some of you would like to believe.

I'm talking only about most of his solo music. I know all about Michael, from his days with the Jackson 5 to the Jacksons and I have all that shyt. And yeah, he was a pop artist. "Off The Wall" may have had hints of R&B and Disco but at the end of the day it was a pop record. Same with "Thriller," "Bad," "Dangerous," "Invincible"... all of them. They were clearly pop records. Some have a few joints that have influences from other genres but yet again, they're not as experimental as you're making them out to be. Prince has made entire albums of Jazz, funk, pop instrumentals, R&B, rock.... dude has fused so many elements.

Prince is a prodigy. Michael Jackson lost his shine when he became a fruitcake.
