We started out as friends, way back in the beginning
When everything was going smooth, and we were all winning
Everybody liked you, voted most popular
A good education is what we saw through our binoculars
Your dad was the main man in his high school too
So why would we expect anything less from you
We used to hang out, we agreed on many things
Even though our class rooms were in opposite wings
When a bully beat up our best friend Steve and gave him a broken arm
You promised the school that you would defend them against any possible harm
So we trusted you more, you gained more support
You were doing a fine job, is what the school newspaper would report
You went on your mission, to find Steve’s tormentor
Since no one was home, you immediately entered
You looked, and looked, and looked some more
But then told the school there were no more places left to explore
All the classmates still wanted revenge for Steven
So you came up with another plan for us to get even
You told us that an older kid was planning on pulling the alarm
But there was no correlation to the damage to Steve’s arm
We wondered a little, and not everyone agreed with your plan
You lost a couple friends, but half the school was still your number one fan
As the semester went by, we heard no fire alarm ringing
That is when your agenda started swinging
The students started to doubt you even more
Your popularity wasn’t nearly as high as it was before
But you were only harassing the older kid for his weekly allowance for food
The classmates now see how the plan became skewed
The plan that you devised, caused your demise
As you thought school spirit would be an effective disguise for your lies
No bells rang, the older kid never posed a threat
Yet, you were effectively able to alter the bully’s silhouette
Even though we clearly see that your plan is not working
You still lie to us about possible school dangers that are lurking
Although you are losing, you still are unable to admit your error
This is my extended metaphor, for George Bush’s war on terror.
