When I was in the military and at peak performance i was 6'2 195 and 7% body fat. I got out in 2000 and steadily declined. and after getting married sh1t got worse. A month ago I was 239 lbs. which is a career high and I was too scared to even see what the body fat % was but I know its high as fukk.
Doing the adkins (cutting carbs/sugar intake) eating chicken, lettuce, cabbage, and steak, while eating small portions a day I've been able to cut 11 lbs. in one week. You lose the most in the first week, and I'm going to continue to do this for on more week with a goal of getting to at least 217. I'm still going to keep carbs low when I start my trip back to the gym at the end of next week as well.
I'm also doing light lifting at the crib with the dumbbell and barbells so when I do go back to the gym it wont be a shock.
Any other suggestions?

You can look it up on line. The first 2 weeks is call the "introduction" you can only intake 20 carbs a day. I try too keep it less than that, and very low sugar.
You will lose the most in the first week, then it starts to taper off. I only eat 2 small meals a day and I don't eat after 7 p.m.
The first 3 days are hard because like a drug addict your body will go through a withdrawal from the lack of sugar/carbs but once you get past that its all good.
I eat grilled chicken, cheese, baked fish, cabbage, bok choy, and broccoli. I also drink a lot of water. Its crazy because, because after eating a full plate, you don't really feel full.
I'm going into my 7th day today so I started doing some light lifting and will be running by Sunday. At this pace I should be close to 215 or so when I start going back to the gym.
After the introduction phase of the adkins diet, you slowly work your way back by eating fruits and vegetables. You still need to watch how many carbs/sugar you take in as well. If you get that lazy i want to go to sleep feeling after you eat, then you had too much carb/sugar intake.

So the only veggie you are eating right now is broccoli? Do you cut back on the veggies in the first few weeks as well?

20 carbs a day? That doesn't sound very healthy at all. How are you supposed to have energy for a workout?

For breakfast I eat eggs, cheese, and turkey bacon.
Vegetables I eat: broccoli, bok choy, lettuce, and cabbage.
Thats not the only vegetables you can eat, but the ones I choose to eat.
As far 20 carbs a day, thats the rule but I don't always hit it. To keep energy, well like I said, you're gonna see results within the first 2 weeks, so thats what motivates me, I don't really feel weak or fatigued because I drink a lot of water, but since if done right you're going to lose a pound a day, you're gonna feel something. I started doing light lifting and crunches yesterday. I'm 223.2 this morning.

You have to drink a lot of water, and I don't mean during the work out. You have to properly hydrate 24 hrs. in advanced. A lot of it is mental as well so you have to be motivated.

It's net carbs.
Net carbs is a bit different.
Amount of carbs minus fiber and glycerin (I think) and somethin' else, I think.

And the 1st week or 2, you're probably gonna lose quite a bit. Depending on your physiology of course.
If you don't lose weight in the 1st week of Atkins, then you're just not gonna lose weight at all on that plan and you better start somethin' else.
It's about gradually increasing your net carbs. Granted, you'll never consume the "typical" amount of carbs that most people do. But you'll intake significantly more carbs than you do on the induction phase.
The induction phase is the 1st 2 weeks. 20 net carbs a day.
Thing is people try to do if for longer which ain't too great for your body...and when they start intaking more carbs...then they have problems.
If idiots realized that carbs have nothing to do with losing weight, then they'd be fine.
Look at Japanese people. I PROMISE you that the VAST majority of their meals consist of carbs. Look at the size of the average Japanese person compared to the average American. Look at the average Chinese person, Indian (East Indian) person and so on.
It's the portions and also the additives in the food over here.
You should look into CKD or some sort of carb-cycling diet. My major beef with Atkins is that at no point do they advise a carb-up day or weekend to replenish Glycogen in the muscles. Atkins was designed for folks who worked out at a beginner level and didn't really put emphasis on working out. Attempting to lift heavy on Atkins is an up-hill battle and not a healthy one.

Atkins is definitely NOT the plan to be on if you do more than light exercising.
No way would I be able to run 3 miles and then go to the gym and do squats, deadlifts, leg presses, and good mornings on 20 carbs a day.
Hell, even in the last phase, I doubt I'd be able to do it.

can u go into more depth on the CKD or carb-cycling?

Yeah please go more into it
Well it is what it sounds like. Basically you cycle days when you go low-carb and moderate in carbs. For instance, on training days you go above 50-100 grams of carbs (good carbs) to help provide energy for working out. On off days you drop the carb intake to 20-50 grams just like Atkins.
The only real difference is that you cycle how much carbs you consume on a daily basis. You can google CKD and find loads of info on the subject. You do all of this on a calorie deficit of course so you must keep track of the calories your consuming.
Another type of CKD is Keto, but in Keto you go very low card from sunday to friday and then you have "carb-ups" from friday evening till saturday night. The idea is to replinish your glycogen levels for workouts during the week. Keto diets also usually consist of high amounts of fat in place of carbs which may not sit pretty with some.
The important thing to remember is that you need to be working out atleast 3 times a week with any type of carb-cycling diet.
