View Full Version : Websites about music.
Maybe something to start a bit of discussion in here.
What websites do you visit that are about music? Why do you visit 'em? What are some of your favorites and which do you hate?

Other than local sites and artists/labels own sites, ill check pitchfork out once in a while. I know its cool to hate it, but I havent really found anything else all that worthwhile either.
pitchfork is good for news
I used to follow Pitchfork pretty regularly then I stopped because they bugged the hell out of me. I peak in every once in a while to see what rating albums got.
There are a couple of blogs that I check for new dance/electro shiit:
http://www.missingtoof.com
http://www.bigstero.com
http://www.discobelle.net
For general indie music news I have:
http://www.gorillavsbear.com, http://www.brooklynvegan.com, http://www.largeheartedboy.com . This last one kind of strays away from generic indie rock and pools all the interviews with bands, authors, comic book artists, etc. A lot of stuff to wade through but it's still pretty cool. I also check http://www.pampelmoose.com which is kind of limited in scope but I give it a pass as it's run by Dave Allen and he's in Gang of Four.
For downloads the main two I use are: http://www.regnyouth.com and http://nodatta.blogspot.com. Both are pretty cool. It's been tough with Oink gone.
Like skanky there are a bunch of local ones that I won't really bother mentioning. Because who cares?
Google Reader has made my following of blogs much more efficient.
Maybe we could make a comprehensive list or something if folks felt like dropping specific links to anything folks found worthwhile.

Pitchfork is great for discovering some music you may not have heard about, but I take their album ratings with a grain of salt.
Pitchfork seems to hear about bands far later than other blogs and websites do.

Okayplayer for discussing music.
Rateyourmusic.com for reviews, it's a pretty great source for finding new music, and their message board isn't too shabby.
Last.fm is my sh!t too.
and my favorite blog for music is easily
http://lostin-tyme.blogspot.com
Nothing but hidden gems from various genres. (It's actually seperated by genre too, which is pretty dope) This is my holy bible, if someone shot at Lostintyme, I'd have to take them bullets.
