Ive lost a lil respect for Royce being a so called MC.
He spits unadulterated HEAT @ Mistah Fab....yet couldnt do shyt on the spot in a battle which defines what kind of mc you really are.
Royce got beat in a battle plain and simple....
If he wasnt ready, he should have declined plain and simple..
People who know Royce know he's a beast with the pen and pad..and thats the thing..THATS ALL HE HAS.
A true MC is ready to battle at any time like a solider is called to war..

I havent even got to hear it yet but i have seen this nikka on tape rhynestone jewels in his bandana...thats what i seen....and thats all it wuz nikka got embarrased so now he tryna get back a ounce of dignity...if the diss is hot he will get a ounce back from me but thats all he had in the first place...him and his indestructible first album can go to hell for disrespectin the Bay..no matter what i did to that album(sit on it,have it on the floor of my car,step on it,let a thief look thru my cd case,seriously use it as a coaster in my car) that album to this day has hardly no scratches on it,cuz i check when im goin thru cd's just so i can laugh about it to myself.

That's exactly why there's legions of underground battle emcees who aren't built to make it in the industry...they can't release good songs with hooks and concepts and their careers don't ever make it past battles and showcases. However, many of these dude's can rip some of the best lyrically even just getting outta bed. Then there's dudes that know they can't go off the top and because of it, don't typically battle or spit freestyles and simply stick to their pen game. It doesn't make them any less talented, they just stick to what their best at and whats familiar to them.
All around...when all is said and done...as an overall emcee...

20 Years ago underground was just that..The difference is people and generations havent progressed with the times.

What I was getting at is...being able to freestyle and battle is a whole different aspect of emceeing that not a lot of people are particularly good at. I have tons of respect for any emcee that can go off the top and get at an opponent, but fact is, most of those dudes are one-dimensional and cannot make a real record if their life depended on it. Although Royce may not be proficient in live battling and spitting off the top, he's more than proved himself for years with his pen game. How can you lose respect for dude because he was out of his element and lost ONE live battle?
I'm more interested in hearing a battle on wax, where both emcees can take the time to craft some tight clever verses going at one another. When you keep it on wax there's no time limits, distractions, and most importantly no excuses from either side and lets each flex their entire skillset, not just whoever has more "yo momma" jokes memorized.
It's sad dude's just cant admit Royce handed Fab an L and did way more damage than Fab did in the live battle. Now people are arguing that battles on wax are less "hip hop" than live freestyling? GTFOH and go back to a open mic at coffeeshop :dry:

fab is not on royce level as a battle mc on songs at all.royce is a rappers rapper. fab flow and delivery just dosent match up to royces when it comes to studio time.

SuperNatural was a beast on the freesyle tip but couldn't write a hits song to save his life.. It goes both ways. Alot of freestyle cats make sh1tty records cuz they can't write good songs.. It just a preference of what you like.. i prefer written songs over freestyle.. my favorite rappers aren't the best freestyle rappers but they write great songs...

I'm pretty sure most people in hip hop didnt even bother to listen to the disses... we didn't care. nobody knows who fab is, the people who do think he's a joke rapper, on a "Sir Mix a Lot" type of level but Mistah Fab's hit wasn't even 1/4 as big.... And Royce? If he ever had a buzz it is long gone....
So Mistah Fab... make another Ghostride the Whip... sell some ringtones... do something other than this trash... Royce... not sure where you're headed... maybe try to link up with Primo again because Boom is the only hot song you've ever made.... and even K-Fed could have sounded decent over Boom...

Just give it up. I never said the battle didn't count. It most definitely did and Royce clearly wasn't prepared and did underestimate Fab. If you wanna be technical, Royce just evened the score 1-1. However, it's arguable that the track is serious enough to end the battle. And We're talking about a RAP BATTLE. At the end of the day all that matters is what cats bring lyrically. I don't care if it's live or taped...on vinyl, cassette or mp3...in front of thousands or no-one. Who cares if he 'baited' Fab? All I know is GZA on record saying he don't freestyle, all pen and pad (when discussing his battle with Jay Z back in the day.)
Make him less of an MC? Can we finally separate battling off the top to making a track? Two separate arts, both good, not every MC/Rapper can do both.
GZA: Yea, I always write like that. I’m even stronger now. As far as writing and lyrically I’m even up a notch or two. But yea I told Deck that a while ago. He’s flashing back on me saying I learned from GZA to just write strong sentences. What I grew up to know as freestyle didn’t mean off the head. So freestyle was never about that for myself, it was just rhyming about no particular subject. I’m not a great off the head rhymer. I really don’t do that. I don’t have skills. I’m spontaneous but I don’t really get down like that. I like to write and craft my work. I think a lot of freestyle stuff or off the head stuff is corny nowadays. It just be killing me sometimes like usually I’m doing a show and someone is screaming out ‘freestyle!’ cuz they want to hear me say something off the head. Not saying I don’t respect that because I heard one or two cats in the whole history of emceeing that was really nice off the head. Everything else was just bull**** to me. I watch BET freestyle Fridays and I’m like this is ridiculous man. They’d rather have two dudes come on and go off the head and not curse. Go off the head and not curse which is hard for a lot of emcees period. I don’t really respect that. I’d rather hear something well written unless you are really spitting something off the head that’s sounding alright. Especially the movie 8 Mile, it was a good flick but it brought more of that freestyle stuff out which really just messed it up. Now the majority of kids who battle are like ‘Look at your shoes kid’ and that **** is annoying. All these corny similes and fake metaphors are kinda weak. If you take the dart Jadakiss threw at 50, he wasn’t talking about his physical appearance, clothes or looks but he was spittin though. In my opinion he was really spittin some stuff, he kept his flow and didn’t get into anything personal. He kept it on some lyrical stuff and for battling that’s what it always was for us through the years. For me it’s just about writing strong lines and catchy stuff that’s witty-unpredictable. Stuff that just stands out, not just a whole bunch of similes like I’m tall like this, your bad like that, you’re a Volkswagen and I’m a Bentley. That’s corny. It’s about being brief with something but haven’t it just as powerful. I always say what the average emcee can say in ten lines I can say in four lines and still be more visual than the majority of emcees out there. That’s what emceeing is for me.
