View Full Version : Why Jay-Z Still Picking Wack Beats For American Gangster?

I'm sorry, but if Jay was really insistent about going back to the old Jay-Z for his "American Gangster" album, nikka should have gone right to Clark Kent, Ski Beatz, and Premo for his ****. WTF is up with Jay's preference for tracks these days? After listening to the short snippets of AG, I can't help but to think nikka needs to dump Pharel and Just Blaze for an album and go with the ol' school producers, would have been a better look.

They're here in the forums somewhere......
Jay need to step his game up for real while he picking his beats, **** sounds like recycled mess from the Kingdom Come album.

Yeah, I don't think ANYONE has high hopes for this guy anymore. Jay-Z's the definition of a fall-off.
One good track does not compensate for an album full of garbage, Jay. You should have learned that sh*t back when you made Vol. 3.

The biggest Jay-z dickrider in New York (excludin' bkgiggles smut ass) told me he wasn't feelin the snippets. Not a good look for Jay.

And this is coming from a Jay-Z fan, there is only so much **** you can spit lyrically without having the listener notice that the beat selection for the album is subpar. Why does Jay feel that every beat from Pharell or Just Blaze is fire? That single Jay put out with Pharell is ****ing wack, the lyrics are hot, but the beat is elementary at best. Jay isn't going to have too many more chances to show the industry he's still the GOAT, it's kind of like MJ coming back and playing for the Wizards, we know he the GOAT, but he playing like he wasn't his old self. The same argument can be made for Jay-Z

Man yall crazy. I think yall used that dirty south simple ish. I
'm not a Jay stan at all but I think he step his beat game up this time around cuz I thought the beats on KC were 100% wackjuice. I'm more into that 70s 80s soul sampling beats maybe that's why I like the beats better on this album. It has that blueprint feel to it. I'm still not gonna pass judgment on 30 sec snippets though. Need to hear it in full.

Agreed, I'm still coppin' the album, but I'm getting tired of Jay's beat selection these days, it's not the Jay-Z that people want to hear, or at least I want to hear.
Could you imagine how hot a Jay album would be if he went back to his roots with the original producers that put him on the map? Ski still producing, Premo still producing, Clark Kent I'm sure could cook something up, Pete Rock still producing, I mean the list goes on. Why pick up Pharell and Just Blaze again when early in his career these fools were no where to be found?

Agreed, I mean I feel really disappointed in hearing the snippets, it's hard to defend Jay when every beat on AG sounds like leftovers from Kingdom Come. If Jay had just a few banging East Coast beats from legendary producers, he'd solidify himself as the GOAT easily.

No doubt, some of these beats have too much going on, I mean we all remember "Jigga, what's my mf'n name? Jigga...." That beat was simple as ****, but his lyrical flow totally smashed that beat, and any beat for that matter around that time. These days some of his beats got so much complexity, that it sometimes sounds like Jay's trying to get complex with it just to keep up.

Was it because the beat was wack or you don't want to hear the album before it drops?

it's funny how half of SOHH love the snippets and half hate them

Yeah man i really think its the beats.
Their like orchestra type beats. Horns all over the place.
The horns start off low and then get higher and higher in volume.
Like somebody said, theres to much going on in the beat.
It should just be a dope simple beat. There aint got to be a million switch ups wit instruments poppin in an out of the song.
