View Full Version : How Come The Game Is Successful But Banks, Yayo & Buck Are Not?

This is an honest question.
Since leaving/kicked out if Gunit The Game has had a whirlwind of a career. He sold 5 Million worldwide on his first album and almost 2 million on his second. But was it all because of 50?
Well, I think not. Lloyd Banks first album sold 2 million worldwide which was before The Game released an album but his second album has sold 500k worldwide thus far. Young Buck has sold 2.3 Million on his first album which was released in 2004 (again before Games album) and his second album sold under 350k so far. Another significant drop. Tony Yayos album I think went Gold and this was released after The Games album. Mobb Deep featured five 50 cent tracks (more than Documentary) and has sold now, what, 700k? being generous, and Lil Scrappy has sold 100k.
Now that sales are out of the way, lets get down to critical acclaim.
Documentary for me tied with DA, however, DA is often mentioned as better than Documentary by other posters/ critics. Hunger For More is easily better than Rotten apple, and this is by a majority vote. Same for Bucks debut, and we are yet to hear Yayos sophmore album. Mobbs album was seen as the worst of their career, and Lil Scrappys album averaged 3/5 Mics. A nice effort.
Games disses were wittier/ funnier and his mixtapes are great. Gunit 25 was a great mixtape, but they hadnt released a good mixtape since end of 2005/ early 2006.
The Game has teamed with Nas, Will.I.Am, Mya, Keyshia Cole, Diddy, Busta, Snoop, Xzibit, Kanye yet Buck, Banks & Yayo seem to team with themselves, rarely venturing outside of Gunit.
For me, The Game seems to be going from strength to strength (sales apart) but the rest of Gunit seem to be falling off the ladder. But if The Games success was only due to 50, then why havent Banks, Buck & Yayo had the saem result?
So whats going on?
Did 50 see more potential in The Game then in Banks, Buck and Yayo?
Does Dr Dre play a more important part than 50?
Is it due to the fact G-Units are only good when 50 is around?
Is The Game's career over?

Success? Dro is not as successful as TI, Lil kim is not as succesful as puffy, Kayne west isn't successful and Jay Z ..ect..
Everyones ones talent leads to different kinds of success ...but to say game is successful is and overstatement .. GAme is nothing outside of GUNIT...Games' name can't be mentioned with out it hving something to do with 50 ...
Games is more a product of 50 hate than of game love..the more ya'll hate 50 is the more ya'll love game...
Games 2nd record still isn't plat, neither is banks, or buck ..50's 2nd sold 10 and his first is plat in 5 weeks..
36 got a grammy ..mjg and 8ball are legends..? different people have a different level of success..
GAmes also doesn't have an original bone in his body..THE DOC..he's alway ways name dropping and kiss up rappers ..if game doesn't use Gunit ,50 ect in his shows interviews and records ...game will be done

What makes Banks any different than the average typical NYC spitter? Nothing. I thought Banks would blow a few years ago on the strength of his punchlines and wordplay. After a while though...it gets old. He has the personality of wall painted black. I thought his first album was ok,matter fact I thought it was dope. The second album I didnt even bother to check it out. I can honestly say, I havent heard any more than three tracks on that album. As soon as I heard "Hands Up" which was a blatant, overly obvious attempt at commercial success, I tuned out and turned off. Banks is nothing special after hearing him for a while. NYC got a million and one emcees just like him. None of them will ever blow for the simple fact that they are..........boring. Rakim,G Rap, Masta Ace, LL, etc, they all had crazy rhyme schemes, but they also had the personality to back it up. They could tell stories, rock parties, battle. Listening to them was like talking to them in person, like a normal conversation. NYC spitters today lack that. As a result, the average listener will have ADD trying listen to them.

That just isnt true man. Very few artists in NY are as talented as Banks. Banks is a good MC, he just has no direction with his music and his individual records - they are all over the place. He needs a good producer/executive producer to grab him by the balls give him a kick up the áss, a direction to go in and get some good music outta him because the talent is most definately there.
Success?
50 cent is more a product of ja rule hate than of 50 cent love..the more ya'll hate ja rue is the more ya'll love 50...
this can be said also than.............

I actually agree with you to some degree on that. That might just be the problem with NYC artists in general. I think of cats like Termanology and Pappoose, and Banks have crazy wordplay, bar patterns, but they aint saying nothin. So maybe is a simple as that, they just need some direction, a producer with experience who can assist them with a vision of some sort. To me, just an opinion, then only cat from NYC that stands out to me is Trife. I think he got potential. I've heard him do stories, battle ish, street ish, even relationship topics. He has the same intricacy with rhymes, but seems to still grab your attention.

Trife is that *****, good lookin' on that choice
Id say that is exactly the problem though. I can only remember a couple of songs where Banks has actually picked a set theme for the record and stuck to it throughout the song - His possibly best record of all time SouthSide Story for example. Most of the time its like you could stack all his verses one after the other and not even know based on content that they are from different songs.

There it is. Its like he wrote one big azz verse from 50's Guess Who's Back days. A huge 3000 bar joint. And now he just takes so many of them and calls it song.

But Game in on his own here. Game is just as popular as Kanye, TI, and Diddy. Doesnt have the money or sales, but still in their tier.

Funny I didn't see Banks, Yayo, or Buck on the Forbes list. I also didn't hear albums from them that topped The Documentary or Doctors Advocate.
Its stupid to say they are close to as successful when Game proved he can stand on his own and Banks/Yayo/Buck cannot.

here's why game is better for you dumbfukks who don't know how the music game works
game has a better voice, delivery, charisma, vocal presence, flow, and style on the mic, and portrays vibes of music
none of the g-unit dudes can do that
yayo sucks and so does his voice
banks got a cool voice but it's not dominant enough, he's more of the supporting role type of dude, and he spits hot 16's he can't write a song or portray a vibe
buck got a cool voice but as a rapper he's not saying nuthin but blah blah blah and he's way too one dimensional with his style and vibe
go ahead and get mad but that's the facts
