don't see the irony in this:

"I feel like a Black Republican, money I got comin' in"
when nas is saying "I feel like a black militant takin' over the government"

they dont see the disrespect for hip hop and his fans in this:

"I dumbed down for my audience to double my dollars
They criticized me for it yet they all yell "HOLLA!"
If skills sold, truth be told, I'd probably be
lyrically, Talib Kweli
Truthfully I wanna rhyme like Common Sense
But I did five mill' - I ain't been rhymin like Common since"

they follow what's popular and are subject to the power of suggestion, where someone says something so much, they believe its true or label an album classic(rd) classic becuz a rapper says so.
they think the movie friday is better than braveheart, becuz entertainment is of more value to them than substance. they think saying the same nothing in different ways is better than saying different things of substance. entertainment is fine, but it should stay in its category.

politicians and others attack rap music because the music you like the most is reflective of your values. what do you value? who do you support republicans or revolutionaries?

compare jay-z to wayne, not nas. despite the hate, nas urinates on jay-z in terms of their music. i listen to what he is saying, not how well is he saying nothing. its much harder to make a song rhyme with a subject matter, than to flow about nothing especially over the beats of the best producer in hip hop. thats how wayne makes 1000 songs.

IMO

you're argument is so stupid...at first you start off talking about content and subject matter...and if you go there all them niggggas is corny.. i mean even Brother Ali is light (no pun) years ahead of all of them put together.

ALL THE RAPPERS you listd are "superficial" rappers

Nas and Jay arent politicians and leaders of the community, they're entertainers, and more people clearly find Jay more entertaining. The End.

Please comparing Jay to Nas is like comparing Beans to G-Rap silly and stupid. Nas is a true MC whose lyricism and storytelling is unmatched, while Jay is a talented rapper who makes good singles.

Yeah because Pac wasn't superficial at all...

Do people just black out the death row part of his career or something?

you can say what you want...but Nas makes song to "help" and send a message. Jay actually holds confrences, shows up to debates, does benefit concerts and donates money.....so you tell me whats up.

Some of y'all are real corny w/ this sh*t. Y'all "purist" niqqas try to turn this rap sh*t into some sacred religion where you either gotta make "deep", "profound" sh*t or you ain't "real". I wonder if some of y'all really know about hip-hop's history or if y'all are just rehashin' some sh*t y'all heard from somebody else.

And what's so "deep" about Rakim makin' entire albums about microphones and how dope he is? As a Rakim fan who's listened to him for years, I fail to see the "depth" in most of his biggest records- it's a niqqa droppin' great lyrics on a track, the sh*t ain't rocket science.

And ohhh yeah... y'all love to pretend like Pac and Nas never made so-called "superficial" music. But y'all know better.
