I know I'm going to catch some flack from this at the jump. I downloaded that joint yesterday, and that is a well produced record. To say the least I'm shocked. I bought their first cd last year and thought it was ok, kind of uneven. I remember thinking they got potential, but they did a good job on this new record. I waited for a long time for that Interpol record, only to be dissapointed with it being uneven. She Wants Revenge's record is ill though. Its on that Cure,Depeche Mode type ish. Moreso Depeche Mode than anything though.

Interpol haven't been listenable since their first album.
The latest is insanely terrible.

They've dropped last year. they make no attempts to hide that they are basically a tribute band to bands like Depeche Mode, Joy Division, Cure, Danse Society,etc.. If you like that darker new wave sound, you'll probably dig these guys. Like I said, they're not remotely original, and they admit that much, but I'm just really surprised at how good the album is. I dont know if its because I went in not expecting much, but I know I expected a lot out of Interpol and was dissapointed in the worst way....

I hate the darker New Wave sound. I found "Love Will Tear Us Apart" downright frightening. Thanks for sparing me the trouble
Yeah, maybe if you're an idiot. That being said Interpol are INCREDIBLY overrated and I'm not sure why. For some reason they don't catch the flack for ripping off all the older bands just like The Killers, She Wants Revenge, and The Bravery.

I cant believe you all dont like the New Wave ish. I love that ish. Its on some white funk. Love all that ish. Joy Division, Echo and Bunneymen. I love that ish. I feel like I just discovered something. Cant believe the hate in here. Sheesh. Some of the comments in here dont surprise me, cuz I notice people into Bauhaus and Joy Division or more arrogant then backpackers. For real I dont know who got more of their own cum on their noses more.

Most people don't listen to the Chameleons and so don't know that interpol is ripping them off in a major way

Very true. Maybe they'd still get the Joy Division (who people seem to be very familiar with these days especially with Control coming out) rip-off tag.

Chameleons were dope too. I still dont see the whole Joy Divison/Interpol comparison. The same with Chameleons/Interpol. I dont think Interpol ripped anybody off. Are they influenced by both? Obviously. But to say rip them off is an extreme accusation. There's a lot of bands from then that have that sound but dont get mentioned.....
The Sound
Section-25
A Certain Ratio
Danse Society
Josef-K
Human League-early ish
Echo & Bunneymen-latter ish
The Cult-early ish when they were Southern Death Cult
Modern English
There's others too, but I dont thing criticizm is warrented towards any of these new bands. When i first heard Turn On the Bright Lights, it was like a breath of fresh air. Someone told me if I like that to listen to Joy Division. So I copped Substance(greatest hits) and hated it. Thought it was for addicts. Later on it grew on me,but even now when I think Joy Division, I dont think Interpol. Same with Chameleons, I dont think Interpol after hearing them. U2 comes to my mind for some strange reason after listening to Chameleons. Someone explain that to me....

You hit it on the head. The ubiquitous comments about "ripping off" these old bands are just the nerds' way of paying lip service to whatever jaded hipster ideals they're trying to subscribe to at the moment. As if there's any chance you're going to hear a new Interpol record and mistake it for some old Joy Division record .
You MIGHT mistake it for a She Wants Revenge song, though.

I appreciate the way you put it as "jaded hipster ideals". Every now and then I still get the uncontrollable urge to smack flames out of these types. I copped a 50 mixtape last winter at a Used CD store. I cant remember which one it was, but it was one of the original joints before Get Rich Or Die Tryin dropped. I saw it used and thought,"I probably have this, but could always use a backup, plus its $2.00". So I take it to the counter, and the quasi-goth kid working at the time, looked at some other kid working there and they both had a snotty disposition like,"can you believe this savage? He probably thinks this is real hiphop!! I bet he doesnt even know who MF Doom is!!! He wouldnt be able to recognize Aesop Rock even with bifocals!!!" You know the types, so me being an anticoward asked why the feminine demeaner with my purchase. I didnt want to prove their stereotypes correct by grabbing both the queers over the counter, but still I had to question why the poor attitude toward my purchase. Long story short I ended up defending gangsta rap as being under the umbrella of hiphop, and appropriately so. To which their attitude was it was the bastard child of such.
I hate these cowards who pick and choose what's talent, and not talent.
As far as I'm concerned, a good record is a good record. Like you said, whatever is the ideal of the moment they are into is what dements their perspective. Me being a real man in every sense of the word, I'm not going to shake someone's hand because they rock to Radiohead, and then poop on somebody who's into ICP. Actually I find the ICP fans somewhat more respectable then the Radiohead/MF Doom types, simply because the Jugalloos or whatever they're called actually support their own. Those mofos will shed bled for their own, and at the same time....wont poop on you cuz you didnt buy the latest ICP comic.
To me its the same with the whole Joy Division/Interpol/She Wants Revenge thing. Interpol is actually a greater band than JD simply because they put out three full records to JD's two. She Wants Revenge has actually put out two records now which makes them equal to .........well I let you finish that statment.

Stupidest thing ive read on here in ages.
sorry but interpol doesn't do anything unique at all. they just cut and paste different albums into their music. the second half of TOTBL sounds like it was lifted straight out of Script of the Bridge.

And The Backstreet Boys are better than all of them because they released 5 albums.. right? To say that one group is better than another because of the amount of albums they released? If thats your criteria for judging bands you need to have a good think about why you like them.
Other than that, I could care less about what you like or don't like. It's cool that you don't get tied up in what hipsters or Hip-Hop heads listen to but saying something like She Wants Revenge > Joy Division or Interpol > Joy Division just makes you sound like you just want to get a reaction
