waiting as long as jay did to respond, it is no wonder that dude aint' where he was when he was at the top over everyone. if not for ether, jay could have been completely on his revisionist history and no one could find a credible stance to stand on. but all he had to do was respond as soon as prodigy, and nas started dissing and would have cut them n!ggaz off. prodigy was doin his best stuff before he became wack, and nas was damn near out of there. if jay would have gone at nas, then when the mixtape disses were coming out. he wouldn't have ever allowed nas to have a voice and could have easily dissed him and called him a hater on his success, plus he had phuck'd his baby moms. instead of making; is that your chick and waiting for two album runs later to say something.

why was a four millionseller on mixtapes in 1999. when at that time he was definately to high profile to be on a mixtape let alone damn near any high profile mixtape from up and coming now legendary new mixtape dj personalities.
yes,.........if jay would have dissed nas when he initially started. i think nas's career would have been over with.
especially during that time, of vol.iii's release and nas's releases which was doin numbers but not seen in the same vein as jay at that particular time.
nas was damn near over the hill sellout ville. it wasn't until the mystery was goin on, of why is nas/mobb deep/ fat joe goin at jay that kept him relevent, in all circles. but before that period,...........nas was definately close to being out of there, regardless of sales receipts.

they had one hit disassociated from all their street level artist.
kanye would have made an impact because he worked it grassroots regardless.
other than that, when backdown and all that was on.
nas had rocafella on the run,......even the cam diss then didn't hold much weight and nas precipitated it, and was dropping the ball by not actually being focused pr wise after the battle.
that mistake allowed the roc to make moves within moves and still see a return.......but honestly the roc was on the run in the hills after ether.

plus, takeova came out and embarassed that n!gga, then the jaz birdnest freestyle after they came back bodied all the b team hopefuls too.
making them less irrelevant, and imo made freeway only an immediate gold selling album too.

The Stillmatic Freestyle is very underrated. Nas killed it with that Rakim flow. Nobody really talks about this diss 'cause for the most part it went under the radar. And whoever said Ether was full of lies didn't really listen to the song. Nas said Jaws bit Big with his lyrics, that him and Dame were doing their impression of Big and Puff Daddy, and that Jaws was a **** rider (one minute it's Jaz-O, the next Big, the next Irv Gotti, the next 50 Cent). What's untrue about that? And Jaws' verse torwards Nas was subjective and not objective. One hot album every 10 year average? Only bad album up to that point was Nastradamus.
