Were any of those other bands good? Didn't want to check them out. I heard it's southern and smells like substance abuse. Im gonna nap, then spend an hour on youtube finding out.

Southern metal is one of the best. Especially of the sludge and stoner kind.
Down I and II are both awesome. I have yet to hear III
There is alot of Pantera I hate but alot I do like.
The first Superjoint album was good. I didn't like the second so much.

Down is the fukking sh1t. Their two guitarists are from Corrosion of Conformity and Crowbar, and Rex from Pantera is their bassist. They're basically a southern stoner/sludge/doom metal all-star band. Their first album is one of my favorite albums of all time.
Superjoint Ritual kick ass too, although they're of the up-tempo, 2 minute thrash metal song cloth.
Anselmo heard a swedish stone metal group called Witchcraft & ran to his guitarist... & that's where III came from.
True story. He was in NY @ the time.

I don't know what Phil could get from Witchcraft that he couldn't already get from Black Sabbath...
The fact that Witchcraft is new, and is STILL doing the same sh*t Sabbath is doing, in a new way. Which sounds retarded but i can't word it any other way.

Down has used their Black Sabbath influence since their first album though. I guess I'm just confused as to why Phil would say he was influenced by a band that is trying to do the same things as Down, just not as good. I listened to a Witchcraft song that stole the Iron Man riff!!! That's just unforgivable. I know some riffs are recycled and what not, but Iron Man should be left alone.

Didn't he pull a Kramer several times and make some racist comments at shows? I def. remember him talking about a Pantera show, saying "This is a White thing" or some **** like that. I can't respect him because of things like that.

He's said sh1t like "white power" at shows, but I don't think that makes him a racist. I mean, people act like when black people say black power it's okay, but if white people say white power it's racist. I'm sure he did grow up with some racist influence, being a white guy in the south, but I doubt he hates all black people. I don't really care either way really, this thread is about his music, not his personal opinions.
