Jay-Z - U Don't Know (2001)

Put this **** in motion ain't no rewindin me back
Could make 40 off a brick but one rhyme could beat that

Jay-Z - Blue Magic (2007)

So what if you flip a couple words
I could triple that in birds

I hate to be a cynic but to me this American Gangster stuff sounds like bull****. Not really an inspiration for Hov just an excuse/marketing ploy for him to talk about coke. I mean how you gonna be 37 years old, President of Def Jam and still talk coke rhymes?

I think execs a scared after Kanye sold so much coke rhymes/rappers have taken to the sideline. They thinking Captain Jigga can save them. Hov just took two steps back with this stunt.

nah sorry..i'm a jigga fan but this can't be defended

so what if its for a movie dude is definitely speaking as Jay-Z.

and as for the concept of the album...i'm guessing coke (a tired and redundant subject)

Ghostface just made an album (Fishscale) almost entirely revolving around coke so why can't Jay?

If it's good music, it can definitely be defended. Wait until you hear the album before getting all upset...

People dont seem to grasp this idea. I dont know, maybe there retarded, or a little slow, but some reason cant understand the idea.

I like the song..it is what it is..he's not gonna do another Blueprint. He's an artist..and artists reinvent themselves (at least the better ones) with each album. If it sounds good..I don't care if it's a multi-millionaire rapping about crack and coke.

post Supreme Clientele Ghostface isn't worth listening to anymore for exactly those reasons.

call me a stan or whatever but i can't wait to hear the album...like you say if it's good music just enjoy it...i'm just tired of birds this and bricks that especially from an artist of Jay-Zs calibre. oh wait it's a concept album  i better give him a pass then.

The “it’s a concept album” excuse is lame man Jay just wanted to still rap about coke but being an exec still rapping about that foolishness at his age isn't a good look and even Jay knows that.

So what better way to get back in the game and get to rap about a childish subject? Why lets do a concept album.

Yall nigqas is buggin. You care more about why he's doing the music than whether the music is good.
The shyt he did with this track is refreshing. It's not a new subject, but he's using a kind of sound that hasn't been used in mainstream rap in a long while. mad nigqas on here don't even understand the nods, references, and the homage he's paying to the old school on this track.

nigqas complain about Pharrell's hook, even though it's obviously a nod to En Vogue's "Hold On" from the late 80's/early 90's. The beat is old school, but with a Neptune's twist. The flow is paying homage to Rakim (which he clearly states in the song). The subject matter is what was going on in the late 80's/early 90's. how can yall not see the theme of the song? And if you can, how can you not appreciate a nigqa payig homage to the shyt that raised him?
