Napalm death gets a pass 'cause they basically invented grindcore, but the vast majority of death metal bands are only concerned with heavy thrashing at blinding speeds and unintelligible lyrics.
I'll stick with my psychedelic rock

its like everything else man.theres good and bad in every genre.check out decapitated for some good technical death metal with decent vocals.i feel you though,i was trying to check out necrophagist and the intro was dope then all of sudden dude starts growling and it just killed it for me.

I know some of those fools, they take themselves so seriously but it's really such a big joke. And their hatred for emos are brilliant, cause they're even worse.

i barely listen to modern death metal if any. I still like The Chasm, Cephalic Carnage (sometimes), Bloodbath (sometimes, this band is like a tribute to old swedish death metal), and Opeth (really aren't death metal).

I am more of a black metal fan myself, particularly more of the experimental kind.

Every now and then I will throw on some Neuraxis, or Psycroptic but I don't really listen to metal like I used to.

I agree most metal are cheesy these days.

I like death metal. I don't get why people say it's corny since it's ahead of any other genre when it comes to technicality and brutality. The growling fits the music. Singing over death metal, now that's corny.

could you up some opeth.

plus, fill me in on what you like about their discography. they are the band i wanna buy their records but i don't know where to start. i found out about them from channel surfin and saw a few of their vids, and was highly curious.
plus, i have a few dl's of their stuff.
if i remember right they were really close to tool-esque, which is a plus.

Start with Blackwater Park.It was the first record i had heard from them at the time and i worked my way backwards.I wouldn't compare them to Tool though, more like 70s prog with death metal aesthetics.

At least death metal features some of the funniest song titles. Just look at the discographies of Cannibal Corpse and V*ginal Incest.

Cradle of Filth, Death, and Winds of Plague make some really good songs. Is that death Metal?

yeah I heard something about that. A friend invited me to their concert, and I became a fan right away. They sounded perfect live, and they make cool songs. great riffs.
I'm not a huge fan, but I look out for their stuff.
