Is this overtraining your pecs, core, shoulders, etc.? If so, should you only do them on chest days?

Waste of time eventually. Any compound exercise where you're doing 30-50 reps isn't doing anything for you as far as gaining strength.

Not really. Maybe if your weak but after a while your body weight doing push-ups will be nothing to you.

i would suggest u do them every other day and aim for more push ups in a set as opposed to doing 10 reps 25 times. i felt more of a burn doing 50 pushups straight than doing 25X5

the whole thing is that your body needs rest period.
every other day would be better

What would be a good target number for people that are starting out or fell off.
You will eventually hit a wall and stop seeing muscle growth, however you will be at a maintenance mode for a while. You MUST progressively increase the weight you are lifting to see growth... don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

If the Navy Seals use them and Marines..why not?
Push-ups tone your muscles, they basically give you strenght, but not visible like body builders, but its there. It gives you a solid muscle, and helps take away all the fat surrounding it .

overtraining is damn near impossible with endurance training (cardio, body weight exercise) since you never fully fatigue the muscle
unless ur doing pushups with a black woman sitting on your back, u have nothing to worry about
herschel walker, and mike tyson both did 2000 pushups and situps everyday when they were in there prime

Just wondering...
Have you tried a variety of push-up exercises rather than conventional? Different types of push-ups will emphasize different parts of the chest e.g. inclined push-ups, wide grip, etc.
Also, try out different calisthenics such as pull ups and dips. These are standard for many military forces as a measure of strength and moving of bodyweight.
Lastly, you could consider trying isometric exercises that isolate and emphasize the chest. They'll get ya....
Variety will get you the results you want.

no amounts of reps can make the body toned....if that system do work then fat people wouldn't be fat wouldn't it....gaining size, losing weight = diet
depends on the person and genetics, many times overtraining is really undereating or undersleeping
but it still helps toning right?

Push-up don't tone muscles. Diet is the only thing that can give you more tone.
