I've been knee deep in the books since May, could ya'll please steer me toward some good, new music. That best of 2007 list is scatterbrained as all hell. Please. Honest suggestions.

Well I am not sure what kind of music you like but since you mentioned Volta you may like The Dear Hunter, they are heavily inspired by them and I think are more focused.

The Procession is a good song on their page

Minus The Bear has a new album out but my favorite by them is still Menos El Oso, my favorite song on their page is Pachuca Sunrise

When Alcest latest album leaked I loved it, the guy behind the project usually does black metal but this new album is like half black metal half shoegaze

Circa Survive new album is good, lush and almost ambient guitar work with a singer that sounds like a girl but still awesome I think.

And I recently saw this band Polar Bear Club live last week. They have a song on their myspace that I absolutely love called Parked in the Parking Lot of Your Heart or something like that. I love the song

New Sunset Rubdown, which leaked, is amazing...of course

New Spoon is pretty good

New album by The Nobility is good

New Page France is good (they actually were touring with Bishop Allen)

Found the new Sunset Rubdown pretty forgettable.

Haven't heard of The Nobility--so I'll check it out.

What don't you like about Bishop Allen?

I assume you're talking about Bjork's Volta.

You might like this cd wife recently copped: Shiina Ringo's Japanese Manners. She's a Japanese pop singer whose catalogue is a mixed bag of pop, rock, jazz, and electronic music. Often her quirkiness and genre-bending approach to electronic music reminds me of Bjork. She also reminds me of David Bowie for similar reasons.

Japanese Manners is heavy on orchestral jazz but also has a good deal of electronic pop. Some songs are in English, but most are in Japanese. Though I don't understand what she is singing about much of the time, from the melodic qualities of her music I can tell that she is more than a capable song-writer with a very open approach to music making. Here are some videos of material from this recent album:

Poppy and retarded, but not in a cool way...in a poppy and retarded way.

You don't like the new Sunset Rubdown? Craziness. Insanity.

The Nobility are from Nashville. Nashville has all this crazy indie-pop, kind of New Pornographers-esque stuff coming from there on Theory 8 records. The Nobility are a really, really cool band. Their album is called The Mezzanine and I'm sure you could d/l it illegally, or actually buy it on Itunes. They're massively cool guys, too.

Ah, I don't like The New Pornographers either. But I'll give it a listen.
