Mr. Roach was one of the few Jazz pioneers to embrace the spirit of real Hip Hop. I still have the Spin magazine article from October of 1988 when he talks about the correlations between Be-Bop and Hip Hop.

wow, this really ****in sucks
back when i was in junior high school, my school's band director got a grant passed and some jazz musicians (including Max Roach) came in to teach the kids in our class how to play.

I learned how to play drums from max roach
