View Full Version : Whether SOHH thinks so or not, The Bay Area is one of the most influential areas

Whether some of the bay area haters want to believe it or not the region is one of the most influential in the US behind NY and LA. Some of this had effects and influenced hip hop, so I am keeping it hip hop as well fam.
Let me just list a few things that came from and people who benefited from the area....
Black Panther Movement
Rolling Stone Magazine
60s...enough said
The Internet (UC Berkley played a huge role in the development)
Half the slang in hip hop
The 'pimpin' in hip hop music
Grateful Dead (One of the most successful groups in US history)
Tupac Shakur
Montery Pop Festival (First Rock Festival in the US..made US stars out of Jim Hendrix and Janis Joplin who were pretty unknown in the states)
Top area for political activism among young people, esp in College
First area to decriminalize smoking marijuana in the US (that's hip hop fam)
The list can continue but those are just a few things....
This doesn't include bringing to the masses classic hip hop albums and acts such as Heiro, Souls of Mischief, Paris, Too Short, and Paris. Also doesn't include the bay area bringing back having fun and doing whatever you want, hate hyphy all you want but its brought back more 'fun' into hip hop even if you don't like the music respect the movement.
Discuss, **** on me, rep the bay, ghost ride your computer into this thread....

Right...cuz people in your sig, Tru Life and Young Jeezy, are advancing black people more then the Black Panther Movement did. Or advancing the youth more then being politically active.
Obviously you never heard of groups like Hieroglyphics....Sad. If you are going to be called hip hop music you need to do a better job of looking for it.

Funny I never heard Dear Mama, Keep ya head up, brenda has a baby, Changes...or any songs about black empowerment from young jeezy. Keep it moving. You are barely young enough to register on these forums without parental permission, I can tell.

I never ****ed with the bay area, and after i seen ni99as going "dumb" jumping on cars and stomping dudes windshield's in when a song came on and acting retarded, it just gave me more of a reason not to mess with them. You're reaching with that "half of hip-hop slang" too. I mess with pac tho, that's about it.

Just remember the bay area when you are poppin your collar, pimpin, smoking on Kush, calling friends 'your neezy', getting cheese, talking about Jump Off, just to name a few...
Damn Hip Hop Music... 34 with a wifey and you still want to play drug dealer moving keys in ATL? You are advancing your people as well homay  Maybe you need to stop worrying about the Bay and hit your local community college.
I also forgot to add that The Bay Area was a major force in the independent hip hop game.

lol, who calls their friends their neezy? Youre blind to the fact nobody outside the bay uses those words
I want to comment on 2pac but I dont want to open up a long discussion. Dude was more negative than positive. He had some joints that were inspirational but didnt live up to that level. That is neither here nor there. I think the bay area hate is just another way sohh sh!ts on itself

Didn't realize no one outside of the bay pops their collar, talks about smoking Kush or purple....I guess Joe Budden never called himself Jump Off either.
Kao...you are right but the influence is still there regardless. My point was he isn't nearly as ignorant as Young Jeezy or Tru Life.

I am far from a kid...but how you gonna say get a life when you don't have a job at 34? Maybe if you didn't put 'Hating on the Bay' as your list of skill sets on your resume you'd have a job.
Let's also throw in Dj Qbert being one of the most influential DJs in modern hip hop as he is a bay area resident. He took what Theo did in NYC to another level up in the Bay Area.

Damn I forgot the 3 top roiders in baseball all started their roid uses in the bay area...Jose, Barry, and Mack. Even Gary Sheffield tried to get down. They influenced a whole era in baseball.
Let's not forget LSD hitting the streets by way of the Bay paving the way for a lot of hallucinations that have fueled plenty of hip hop lyrics.

although it gained its popularity in SF, "westcoast offense" didnt come from the west coast(or the 49ers).. Walsh brought that style of coaching from a former team.

A coach from Cinn and a coach from the raiders helped develop what would lead to the 'westcoast offense' so not sure how you figure it wasn't birthed in that area. He got most of his coaching experience on the westcoast at various schools. What he learned on the westcoast is what led to him being allowed to develop it while out in Cinn.
And Opey I didn't forget, it is in one of the other posts not the main one.

This is true but Sid Gillman laid the the foundation down for Walsh who came up with The West Coast offense while coaching in Cincinnati

He credits the coach with helping (cant remember his name) but the whole system wasn't something he 'picked up' there. They allowed him to develop a plan because they had a horrible front line so they couldn't run the ball. That is how it was birthed.
