My homie been tryin to put me up on this album for a long while now...but I'm the type of person who doesn't like to have anything forcefed to me or thrown in my face....I have to naturally gravitate towards it.

Listened to it....must say...I was amazed.

Lupe's a complete MC. Diverse content & substance (like American Terrorist dealing with how blacks are done wrong in this country, He Say She Say talking about abset fathers, Hurt Me Soul dealing with his introduction and relationship with Hip Hop, Daydreaming, Sunshine, etc)

great wordplay and creative punchlines.....

He used his mouth as a shovel to try and hollow it
and when he couldn't dirt spit... swallowed it
Working like a.. hmm.. "reverse archaeologist"
Except.. his buried treasure was sunshine

No honor amongst fellows
It's as hard as tryin to sit with a blind man and describe yellow

And so it seems that I'm, sewin jeans
And, 1st and 15 is just a sewin machine
So I, cut the pattern and I, sew in seams
And, buttonin this hustlin then publically I'm Buddy Lee
There's no bustin them and cuffin them is like
usherin in the regime, they want me to make Prince pants
But I withstand, I ain't gotten into that
A little "big" in the waist, 2-pocket on the back

The production was amazing. When I heard Kanye only had one beat on it I was thinkin "ah man, it's gonna be lacking". But the beats was mostly dope. alot of them had that Kanye/J-Dilla type production style to them. Lupe has some good producers on his label. beats like Daydreamin, Pressure, The Emperor's Soundtrack, Hurt Me Soul,.....and of course "The Cool" from Mr. West himself.......the beats were crazy.

This is the best album I have heard in a long while. Made an instant Lupe fan. Honestly....10 years from now, we will be mentioning this album in the same breath as albums like Illmatic, Reasonable Doubt, Liquid Swordz.....etc. Album's a classic....and that's not a word I just throw around.

he is honestly one of the most underrated in hiphop right now

American Terrorist was not about how Blacks were done wrong in this country. That was a bit of it, try listening to the track a few more times. It's about a view of the Americans from the outside. It's essentially about American greed in general.

Hurt Me Soul is about all the problems of the world rolled up into 3 classic verses

I don't know what you dudes are listening to. You are remembering a single verse or few lines and mistakenly thinking that applies to the whole track. The last verse of Hurt Me Soul applies to "all the world's ills". Listen to the first one, it has nothing to do with that. It's about him personally and his hip-hop influences. I'd argue that that track has more to do with him as an artist than the problems of the world.

Either way, album is disgusting and Lupe doesn't get enough credit. A lot of people can't digest good music.

Yep, it's an incredible album. American Terrorist is about just that, out govt. using terrorist tactics. Hurt Me Soul starts small and expands. I still don't understand the Instrumental though.

^i think the box refers to TV or radio etc. hes talking about the media and how it affects to ppl esp. to the young audiences.

That's kind of the feeling that I got, but not so much media as like the famous people and ****...but what's good with the doctor's and the instrumental?

kennykenken

^maybe the doctors are the teachers or parents or guardians or whoever that wants the kid to be in the right path and the instrumental is his voice which means that hes only stating what the media is stating and not by his thoughts... do you get what i mean?

Hm.. The lyrics on that album go for "creative" to "reaching too far" for me, guess I'm not that easily impressed. A lot of time, I get the feeling dude is just sitting there with a thesaurus, looking for words that rhyme just to make himself sound more complex than he really is. TBH I don't think dude was thinking as hard when he was penning these songs as some of you are about their meaning..

But, OK, I won't lie, the lyrics ARE mostly creative in a good way. The other thing I don't like about the album, though, is Lupe's voice.. pisses me the **** off

"Hurt Me Soul" is one of the best hip hop songs in recent years, deep deep ****... American Terrorist is an outsiders view of america, and its so true too.. Lupe is way ahead of his time and the only real thoro artist i see coming outta this generation

That's part right, but the thing is, in the song "the Box" is never specifically named and could represent just about anything. The TV or Radio are the common things people think of, but it could represent a computer, a home, a damn basketball court, basically anything and it still fits into the context of the song. Genious
