when im trying to lose weight i take my body weight, multiply it by 12 and thats how many calories i eat a day.

so 200 * 12 is 2400 calories a day. it sounds like a lot, but i'm a pretty active guy. i could sustain my current weight at like 3000 calories a day.

i divide my 2400 calories over 6 meals...thats 400 calories a meal.

a small meal for me is 400 calories. usually 40g protein, 40g carbs, 9g fat.

currently the majority of my carbs come from oatmeal, bread, pasta and cereal, and brown rice.

quaker oatmeal is a great source of carbs and bran. plus its cheap as hell. i throw in a scoop of flavored whey and you dont even have to add sugar. throw some milk in there and thats 40g of protein and 40g of carbs right there.

i use bread for my midday meals which are usually egg sandwiches, tuna sandwiches, non fat hot dogs, etc. always the cheap wheat. whole grain is best, but i usually cant afford it.

for dinner i usually have some type of pasta with meat sauce and a side of veggies...or 2 chicken breasts with a side of brown rice and veggies.

since ive been focusing on my body fat, ive actually dropped down to about 12 or 13 percent...and i normally sit at around 17 percent. havent lost any significant muscle mass either.

A small meal is something that simply satisfies your hunger needs. Your not supposed to be feeling full or empty after a meal. Your brain takes exactly 15 minutes after eating to determine whether or not you satisfied your needs. This is why some people eat too much and then feel like they got hit by a truck a little bit later.

Just eat SLOWER and take time after the meal. If after 15 minutes you still feel a little bit of hunger in your stomach then eat just a bit more.

As for portions, I always used my balled up fist as a measure of how much actual food to consume. Over the years many researchers and fitness gurus have used this rule of thumb because it is believed that your balled up fist is the "ideal" size of your stomach; hence you stay within that limit. Your stomach stretches and shrinks on a daily basis, eating smaller portions will keep your stomach at its ideal size.

What about eating 4-6 meals for bulking? Are these supposed to be small meals too? If they are, how does this work for losing AND gaining weight?

just do the math.

i need about 3200-3600 calories a day if I'm bulking. Divide that over 6 meals and you get 600 calories per meal...instead of 400 calories a meal which is what I would do when cutting.

i would also pay much more attention to where the calories came from on a cut then I would on a bulk.

is your avatar a mute testament to this product's capabilities? if so, is fitday aware of this?
