Listen, Mobb Deep's second and third albums were epitomic of the vintage mid-90's era. Their sounds, stories, P's flow, collabos, and all that shyt were extremely apt for that time period in Hip-hop.

A lot of people don't understand that unlike rappers like Jay, Nas, Common, Outkast, etc., who managed to find a transition from that sound to one we have now, they totally diverted to a more generically and overly gangsta sound that completely took away any possible quality that would have been offerable through the last 10 years or so.

Murda Muzik was when I first noticed the transition, and it worked well for them; they went platinum. But it's been downhill ever since. They became too monotonous. The beats weren't/haven't been good enough to redeem the lackluster lyrics amongst other things.

So basically what I'm saying is, the mid-90's formula was perfect for Mobb Deep. They dropped classics. THIS era is simply not compatible with the sounds they're capable of making. And right now, they're just looking for something that works for them. Both Pee and Hav. And The Return Of The Mac was as apt an approach as there is out other today.
