I usually don't go above 135 on barbell curl; manage roughly 10 reps when I start out fresh. Most I ever attempted was 160 lbs. and repped that for 4, haven't tried maxing out on that since though. I mainly go for reps over weight on Biceps especially for Barbell curls; 4x12 in a pyramid scheme descending and ascending depending on the week.

As for Dumbbells, I maxed at 85 lbs. right off the break, fresh of course. I stick to 60-70 lbs. on the regular though.

i guarantee if you do drop sets your arms will be on FIRE if done right. You'll get bigger arms fast too.

Standing dumbbel girls...alternating...start of with something u can do alteast 12 times....but burn out everything. Do as many as u can with that, then drop 5-10 pounds and do those and burn out...drop 5 more pounds...burn out...5 more....keep goin til u get to 15lb dumbbells and just burn that shyt out.

no real rest in between each drop tho...the time it take you to put down the dumbbells and pick up the other ones is the only rest u should be taking.

When you're done your arms should feel like they're about to explode...you will have to rest for like 5-10minutes for doing anything else if done right lol

I don't do Drop sets often but when I do I save them for last. Go right down the rack or up the rack if I'm feelin it. Try doing this sh*t for Shoulder Press haha.

I used to f*ck around with that when I did my serious bulks, haven't messed around with those wild workouts lately though. 21's and the occasional drop-set is as far as I go nowadays in regard to unorthodox routines.

it's more than doable. Those are the same weights I use when I do biceps for reps. Primarily do the 70lb for hammer curls and 135 on the bar with strict form. Rather than make assumptions/speculate, i'd ask how the person achieved it.

I can do 225lbs 16 times on the flat bench press on first set as well....so im pretty sure i can max bench ATLEAST 325lbs

I wouldnt say im "big"...but im very cut/lean and have been liftin for a while now

well shyt...u should definately be able to curl them 45lb dumbbells more than what u say if you are indeed a lifter at that size...man if i had that size with the pound for pound strength i got now i'd be on some hulk shyt...punchin nikkas for no reason

offtopic question...when you're on the flat bench and u benchpress with 2 dumbbells close together (literrally against eachother) over your chest...does this focus on the chest mainly or is this supposed to be some alternate press that helps build the triceps more? I see this one dude do this everytime in the gym....he doesnt even touch the regular bench press or bench press form...he just hits these instead...his tricep game is nuts....im curious is that type of bench is what gets that area up.

Diggy_Dat_Niggy
07-05-07, 11:06 PM
You should try it and see how it is. It sounds like a close grip press with dumbells, so Im guessing it would stress the triceps alot.

Never-lie Jenkins
07-05-07, 11:58 PM
i tried it like 2 or 3 times...i dont really feel a major burn in my tri's after doing it tho....i dont know...im gonna keep doin them tho to see if it improve's my tri's...we'll see.

Yea people overlook Traps and Shoulders a lot. When it comes to attracting females traps and shoulders and usually the first thing they notice. Having big guns will lend some help, but traps and shoulders are kryptonite to a chick.

my biceps are already swole as fukk from deadlifts and weighted chin ups. those are compound lifts that actually put on solid muscle mass.

curls get you a pump or whatever, but dont base your workout around them. its essentially worthless because of this. if you wanna look swole for an hour after you get out the gym...but back to skinny by the end of the day then focus on curls. if you wanna actually be and look strong all the time, put more effort into compound shiit.

i do curls about once a week though. i did a few sets at 135lbs today for a few reps.

i disagree...sure those exercises work the biceps too...but the most effective bicep workout to me is standing alternating drop sets with dumbbells.

shyt..if u want...post ya pics...i'll post mine....my before and after's will change ya mind....i took before and afters for certain periods of adding different excersizes in...TRUST...focusing on the biceps atleast once a week will help a lot.

how many sets are yall doing for traps? i havent been seeing much improvement lately, should i stop doing shrugs with dumbells? i use 105 or 100lb dumbells, 3 sets of 10 reps and after each set i drop those and hit 10 with 55 lb dumbells

i started using the neck machine too

u goin too heavy...

3 sets of sitting military presses ( i use 50 or 55lb dumbbells) no set number..go as many as u can...

then 3 sets of shoulders shrugs with 70lb dumbbells...again..no set number...i usually get about 45-50 on first set....and 40 on the last 2 sets

do that once or twice a week and you'll be straight...u wanna make sure ur doing the actual lift a lot so going so heavy to where u only get about 10 in is not the way to go for traps/shoulders

lol yup..i just go as many as i can..its usually in the 40's somewhere.

In regards muscle areas like the traps and shoulders...you actually want to do more reps because the actual motion of the excersize triggers muscle growth faster. That doesn't mean u want to go real light or anything...but u want to atleast do a good 20 for shoulder shrugs..you want cut look..you dont want it to be TOO massive around your neck...plus you'll end up pulling muscles goin real heavy.....ever sleep wrong and wake up where you cant even turn your neck a certain way? Thats what happens when you go too heavy with shoulder shrugs...i used to do this all the time until i switched it up....now i never get that injury and got better results

as far as the military presses...u wont wanna go over 20 reps

If your doing dumbbell shrugs its feasible to do so many reps... but if your doing barbell shrugs you should emphasize weight over reps. Why do you think good deadlifters and power cleaners usually have monster Traps?

Progressive increases in weight is what causes muscle growth. Barbell shrugs are more effective in my opinion for adding thickness and peak to your traps.

why dont u just by the ones that u can add weight too?

I got 2 bars and about 120lbs worth of weight plates to go on them. Makes it hard to do drop sets at home tho..being u have to take the weight off of them...at the gym i can just drop em and pick up the next set right after each other.
