Lets talk about this real quick.....let me say off top i think Jay-Z is the best rapper to ever live. But i'm still a grown man myself and i dont know him personally...so i'm gonna always call a spade a spade....but some things about him lately rub me the wrong way (no homo for all yall young bul who like to say that)..........heres my problem with him
-he came off with the whole Rocafella thing, like honestly loyalty, respect and like he was against the whole Corp. Structure, you know we rocafella, we dont conform to that. Then he actually does it when essentially breaking up his family...so he told us, which was suppose to be all that matter to him so he says in his raps himself...for the corperate thing.....i thought on some levels it kind of went against what he was preaching for a long time.
-Now he comes off sometimes like a lot of stuff he said and did is wrong now or corny or he's beyond it...my thing is yes it's good to grow and mature but some stuff isn't ghetto or childish some stuff is just BLACK CULTURE, some of the sh!T we do. We know some white people can;t understand the difference from Ghetto and Black culture but you'd think he would. It's like he's fallen into how your suppose to be when your rich, like the white way to do it is the model for how you act. It's like he's that now....that edge is gone.
-Like he's going a little too far with the whole rich thing, you can't alienate the core fans that got you to where you are..not saying he gotten go spit "money, cash hoes" but he still has to touch down in the fabric of the fans that made him him.
-He's spitting i'm having dinner with the Lyors and Whoever...as if thats what he really wanted was to be accepted and respected by these dudes, when his whole energy at first was like fuk them? You know? Now he wants them to like him..he even goes further and says "they respecting my mind now"....like that means a lot to him. Basically longing for acceptance from the rich Whites, so he can leave the Dames alone and Corp thugs, and start running with these WASP, and Free Masons or something. Someone needs to remind him that he's going to always be a n!ggerr to them, and stop trying to conform on a number of levels
That's my knock on Jay...still the best ever but this is what i'm getting

That Roc LA Familia talk was just to sell some recods B. He never meant it.
When you do get older not just having $ u realize some things that are so-called culture are just dumb. 20' spinning rims are dumb no matter how many Black people have them. You hat a curb wrong and yer out Gs. What's the point? Styling too much is also dumb even thouhg it is pervasive among us.
Ya, him doing PSA for Jews, and kissing butt of big wigs is ultra-corny but I guess it is part of his job description.

Jay is in a whole different world now. Maybe it was one of his goals, to be rubbing shoulders with the rich and powerful, only he knows. I cant say he is fake cause we dont know what his goals really were. LOL@ yall believeing the words he spat in his songs, when HE TOLD EVERYONE not to believe everything you hear and believe only half of what you see. Jay doesnt owe his fans anything, he made his music and now he's moving on to the next phase of his life. People need to change and grow. It seems people are knocking him for doing so. Just hold on to the memories of him being an MC and thats it, cause thats all he is to us, an MC. Also remember no matter what Jay does people are gonna find fault and make him SEEM like he didnt/doesnt/never mattered.

When someone criticizes you, always look at the person doing so. I mean who are these friends that you are talking about? Dame? Biggs? Who's to say that they arent fake. One thing I learned in life is that jealousy is a mother and people will say/do anything to make people believe you're something that you're not. How much $$ does one need? It depends on ones goal. If ones goal is to have 10 billion dollars then that how much $$ one will need. Question, why are we/people worried about Jay-Z and his personal dealings? All he is to us is a person who makes albums and the only thing we can criticize fairly is his craft.

i think jay has always been good with keeping personal issues personal. in other words, i doubt many people really have enough info to know what is what. as for loyalty, seems to me like bleek will always be straight, if he sells records or not, i'm sure that runs just as deep with other people around jay not in the public eye, so i've always figured that anyone who jay seems to be f'ing over had it coming to them. i mean even dame can never seem to really fault jay too hard.

First of all, if you believe what you hear in a rap, you already defeated yourself.
Secondly, alot of things that pass for "black culture" ARE ghetto. Not only does rap need to grow up, but the entire community as well. So I'm saying it outright: grow up nyggas. Dressing nice and speaking with some sense isn't a white thing, it's a mature thing. The fact that some people think it is, is a big part of the problem. Some trends exemplified by children need to remain with children.

If i was broken hearted i'd be mad at him or some sh!T and be hating. I just asked a question.... i said you sounded broken-hearted because you started this saying that you think dude is a great rapper who has made gr8 music, then you go on to sh1t on him for how he handled personal situations when you have no idea what was really going on. you made this thread to call dude a "fake" based on gossip you have convinced yourself to believe, none of the issues you raised had anything to do with the actual music.
You know when your in the public eye your open for criticism.....i mean at the end of the day he's just a n!gga who's maybe contradicted a lot of sh!T...but who doesn't...but he and we held him to a different standard...so the Jordan rules apply with him.everybody is open for criticism, you opened yourself up to criticism when you made this thread. i dont have a problem with your criticisms, i just dont think that they dont hold a lot of weight. like i said, youre accusing him of contradicting himself based on gossip you have convinced yourself to believe. you dont know jay or any of the ppl that he's had dealings wwith, therefore you look silly tryna judge who was right/wrong in any of those personal situations.
I mean i could be misinterpreting something..who really knows...all we can do is assume from the little info we have....thats why i said "thats what i'm getting" i think you are misinterpreting things, like that "they respect my mind now" line for example. you have taken that line as if jay is trying his hardest to be accepted by old rich white guys, and its obvious that you arent understanding what he's really saying. the song is called "coporate takeover", he was bragging on the power he is gaining in coporate america. he was saying that the crackers in control respect his mind now as oppose to just thinking of him as some ignorant cat from the street who's good at rhyming simple words to a beat (which is probably how they see most rappers). i doubt that any1 would have to tell jay that he will always be a "n1gger" to those ppl, peep "my way" from bp2. i dont see dude "coon shuffling", i see dude opening up doors so others can follow.

Jay also admitted to not really making the music he wanted all along to compromise his sales and popularity. He basically wouldn't have the profilic and positive role-model status he has today if he didnt asskiss the upper class media. He's made great music, brought hip-hop to new levels and is basically a success story in the truest sense.
50 is more of the hustler icon. Regardless of whether or not he milks the gangster image, his entrepreneurship model is a lot more "real" as far as hip-hop stereotypes go.

the both of you are talking as if you know this guy personally. for the life of me i cant understand why you net cats act like you know these rappers personally.
Obviously I'm basing it off what I do know about him. I didn't grow up wit the nigqa and I don't know him personally, but the nigqa spent over a decade making music, and the image of him that you get from him in that music and in anything else you wintess him being involved in is that of a shallow person. Even his "grown" up shyt is still extremely materialistic. And when he's not on that shyt, his "introspective" songs come of as a person who's too focused on himself and his self-promotion, which is shallow to me.

you didnt say that the image that he has portrayed in his music is that of a shallow person, you said that he as a man is shallow in every aspect of his life. im saying that unless youve known the guy personally for a good period of time, then your judgment of him as a person holds no weight. you dont know what dude is really like as a person. you cats just need to concentrate on the music and stop acting like you know these rappers personally.
