The following will occur on June 13, 2008.
New York City, USA
The sun heats the concrete, trapped where it lands
The sidewalk busy with people, traffic’s jammed
Seems this act is planned, when some start to slow
Cars cease honking, as everyone starts to choke
Hands on their throats, falling to the street below
From within their vehicles; into a heap of smoke
Then the city’s alone, there’s no talk or violence
No audible sirens… suddenly all is silent
Day falls to night, bodies overtook the ground
As a coyote carefully emerges, and looks around…
“Good evening folks; this is Eric Nash reporting…
Updating you on the terrorist attack this morning
It occurred in New York, but other states were affected
There were similar cases in Florida, LA, and Texas
Early findings suggest, release of a biological agent
Into our air, by terrorists trying to topple our nation
In minutes, we’ll go live to the President’s statement
With apparent new information on the evidence taken…”
Beijing, China
Pollution from smoke stacks fills the atmosphere
The rain clouds go black, yet the forecast was clear
Workers on steel girders, all slowly take cover
As rain falls, looking for an alcove to stay under
Lightning follows the thunder, they can hardly see
Talking ceased as they hear others start to scream
Droplets seep, producing steam up through the beams
Sheer panic turns to useless pleas of human beings
Who’s bodies fall off the building, and hit with a thud…
Landing on a mountain of carcasses that sit in the mud.
Perth, Australia
Bulldozers knock down trees, at a construction site
Hearing a rumble nearby, some look up in fright
Coming from a height, causing instant commotion…
Is a tidal wave arising from the Indian Ocean
Before anyone noticed, they were trapped in crowds
Unable to run from the wave, and its massive sound
The water crashes down, drowning the buildings
After it recedes, bodies are found on the ceilings
Which collapse to the ground, on the soaking lawns
Yet all the trees stand tall… and the ocean’s calm.
“The President’s seated; he won’t take much airtime
Thirty seconds is needed; CNN takes us there live…”
Presidential Address I
“Good evening America; this is not a rehearsed speech
All information is not available; I will keep this brief
Recently, parts of our country have come under attack
People died choking in the streets, smothered with gas
This new weapon of mass destruction is, our new threat
Who has chosen to attack us? We haven’t a clue yet
What we know is, terrorists may indeed strike again
Their method? Doses of CO2 carried by the wind
The CO2 is mixed with neurotoxins; and maybe more
This is different than 9/11, we want you to stay indoors
You’ll feel a military force, if you live in New York
LA, Texas or Florida, as we determine its source
Of course, to keep you safe, I’ll do whatever it entails
And we will not fail; America will again, prevail.”
“We’re now aware, from various worldwide affiliates
Of casualties in Australia’s and China’s districts
Beijing was hit with, a rare acidic type of rain
While the city of Perth was devastated by a tidal wave
All involved did not survive, yet with odd, strange fate
By avoiding construction sites, all animals remained safe
“The disasters seem man-made” said one oceanographer
Leaving most in talks to prove just what foe’s responsible…”
Moscow, Russia
Vehicles are bumper-to-bumper, thunder in the sky
Horns blaring at each other; traffic’s tied up for miles
The lightning comes in fives; the bolts dropping fast
Striking the vehicles in the sides, old cars compact
The target’s gas; there’s smoke and electrical fires
Lightning cracks the road, and exits through the tires
Concrete begins to split, upending pavement below
Constantly hitting the bridge, suspension cables groan
The storms strength grows, the wide bridge collapses
And with the violent crashes, the lightning relapses.
British Columbia, Canada
A ferry is something to view along Nanaimo Harbor
Dumping sewage through its pipeline to the water
Then out of the quiet calmness, the sky turns green
Waves start churning; the wind moves to higher speeds
Over the horizon’s trees, a tornado emerges
With no anchor to slow it, the ferry boat begins turning
Then becomes air born; it’s carried over the town
Air horns sound as the ferry is thrown to the ground
No one’s around, so no trees fall in the forest
A lone farmhouse remains; the storm oddly ignored it…
Los Angeles, USA
Downtown LA is deserted, not a person at night
When a truck rounds a corner and turns on its lights
This transporter, it shows something hauled away
Bodies in cargo a hold, piled up in garbage bags
Camouflage draped, the military steps passed trash
No man gasps, they easily breathe with gas masks
The stench attracting insects, to the putrid air
Who attack flesh, and nest inside human ears
Through the atmosphere, to a park with lots of trees
Here a dog roams free, with no owner, on a leash.
June 20, 2008
“New information was released about this catastrophe
A week after, each country is healing from its tragedies
We received reports, Chile endured volcanic eruptions
Earthquakes in Mexico caused damage and destruction
But we’ll interrupt coverage, until our threat is solved
We now take you to biologist Don Reynolds; Don…”
“Thanks Eric; sources tell us, and we got lots of them
Trees were emitting a rare form of CO2, not oxygen
With neurotoxins; it’s really an astounding combination
But we ask nobody start killing surrounding vegetation
It could make the problem escalate; the sun is no threat
Yet indoor plants may explain the recent in-home deaths
Seems they built up a defense, mechanisms for protection
Determining us a threat, and testing their lone weapon
CO2 is present at, 0.035 percent
In the air, we ingest this every time we find a breath
Last test, it rose to 45.79 percent
This exposure can lead to death in three-to-five seconds
Yet, the gas did not weaken wildlife in fluent regions
Which usually means, it was meant for human beings…”
“But how can you be sure of nature’s intentions, this time?”
“The ‘how’ is irrelevant… the major question is, ‘why’?”
Presidential Address II
“Good evening; I say that now with assured conviction
This address is to every country, town, and jurisdiction
We’ve had our differences, living in fear since day one
Of defending our homes, when we share this same one
The same sun; we may not be able to find it shortly
Not from terrorism or war, this was our final warning
It took lives being cut short, ending so violently
Man was destroying the Earth; Earth didn’t go quietly
We’re we determined a virus? Was it natural selection?
I fear we’ll never know the answers to those questions
We’re taught a valuable lesson; given a second chance
What we do with it is up to us; the rest is in our hands…”
......
Some time, 2009
Central Park is alive, trees sway back and forth
People acting cordial, these days that is normal
In Beijing, no more pollution hovers in their sky
In place of smoke stacks, is another wind turbine
Perth’s construction site; there’s no manned machines
Just workers on their hands and knees, planting trees
A clear harbor in B.C., surrounded by water towers
Still traffic in Moscow, but cars are solar powered
Looking up high, seeing through the eyes of a child
An African girl in the long grass, she finally smiles.
Meanwhile…
A teen strolls down a sidewalk, smoking cigarettes
Ignoring signs to stop, people choke in his presence
This adolescent, takes the pack from its plastic bag
Nowhere near a bin, so he tosses the trash away
A passerby, “Hey! Don’t you remember 2008?”
“Jesus” the teen responds…
“What difference will one wrapper make?”
