Bulletproof vests, also known as soft body armor, are most often made of the lightweight woven material (KevlarTM) fiber. Its fibers absorb and then dissipate a bullet’s energy. Comparing equal weights of materials, KevlarTM is about five times stronger than steel.

The bullet’s tip touches thousands of individual fibers, stretching and breaking them. Most of the energy is absorbed at the points where fibers cross over each other. The more stiff or rigid the material, the more quickly the energy is distributed, due to the increased speed of the wave, and the faster the bullet will be stopped. But increasing a material’s stiffness often makes it more brittle, so a balance must be sought.

my vest is a pro max and weighs a little more than 4 pounds without the plates its not really that heavy

uhh....what stage vest you talking about? stage one and 2, theres different grads that stop different bullets, if you got a type one on...and a ***** pulls out a 22. dont even run...just stand there and let him shoot you, but pretty much anything of a higher caliber you run the risk of having a hole in your torso...the right bullet at the right range will still **** you up, if not go threw the **** so i dont know what 5 pound vest willl protect you from...not much, i've seen *****s order stage 3 vests from overseas and they were like 25+...an extra 20 pounds on your back + a shoot out = a trip to the morgue
