Yeah, a lotta the rock I listen to is incompatible with most hip-hop heads and vice versa, I guess. I always found this as strange though, that someone who would be listening to Jedi Mind Tricks and The Coup, because "that underground sh*t is real", listens to Maroon 5 and Stain'd for their rock. WTF?

Well, each genre has its own aesthetic--its own qualities to offer listeners. There is no reason why someone who prefers a sound in rap that happens to be less popular would also prefer sounds in rock that are also less popular. Mindful and genuine music lovers don't care how popular or unpopular the music they love happens to be.

I disagree, they both have more in common than they differ. Both underground rock and underground rap are generally rawer and talk about more true to life things.

Why does it matter? Its just music...christ. People are so...irritating with that "oh you listen to __________ so you must be lame." yada yada..Personal preference>>caring about what other try and mold you to "like"...damn.

Well, I'm not losing sleep over it or anything. BUT usually, a person can be judged upon his musical tastes. It's true, your musical tastes say a lot about you. And when you spend a huge amount of time talking about, arguing about, listening to, trying to make and generally being obsessive about music, you become judgemental about others musical tastes. That's just the way it is.
I'm not necessarily saying such and such is lame because he doesn't appreciate so and so, the example I gave is just stating that some people with an open mind towards one genre are very closed in the next, my theory is that you should stay open-minded in all.
