The Walkmen - "***** Cats" Starring the Walkmen
So far I'm only a few songs into the record--I guess it's an exact cover of another album which I'm admittedly not familiar with.

I'm kind of indifferent about The Walkmen they just don't seem that interesting. Whatever it is that they do (generic indie rock?) they seem proficient at it.

I never get the feeling when listening to 'em that it's bad music. It's just sort of there existing in space.

Mogwai- 4 Satin EP
Only three songs but the final track clocks in at almost 13 minutes. Pretty much what one would expect from Mogwai. This release doesn't feature their more aggressive approach to instrumental/post-rock (which I prefer) but it's still a nice listen.

Arctic Monkeys - Your Favourite Worst Nightmare
Definitely a sophomore slump.

I think I read in an interview that this album is 'heavier' than the first which I didn't really pick up on. I did pick up on them taking themselves a lot more seriously.

This album lacks the energy the first one did--similar to the Bloc Party but they were unable to pull it off. A lot of these tracks sounded like surf rock songs.

Also, I'm not sure why they chose to release another album so soon. All of these songs seem like they should be album left overs.

Joss Stone - Introducing Joss Stone
I got suckered into downloading this by catching part of a video and thinking she looked doable and the song wasn't horrible. That's the whole truth.

I think Joss Stone has a nice voice and doesn't seem to be that big of an idiot. 'Tell Me What We're Gonna Do Now' is one of the best (getting mainstream exposure) songs of 2007. Common's verse is basically garbage and unnecessary though.

The album isn't terrible but it seems like something my yuppy neighbors wife would listen to while cleaning the house. Or making cookies. I think this is the kind of thing my mom would listen to while driving to work.

Other recent stuff my mom likes: Nelly Furtado (when she was a hippy), India.Airie, Jewel, Corrine Bailey Rae, and Macy Gray. Although, this is just the more recent stuff she listens to get picture where this record would go.

Something worth noting though is she has some pretty big features: Lauryn Hill, Common, Van Hunt, John Legend and Patti LaBelle. I think the whole record was produce by Raphael Saddiq?

If you like cheesey-blue-eyed-soul by girls who are fukcing for tracks. Give it a download.

good idea for a thread

Goon Moon-Lickers Last Legs

Still not entirely sure what I think of this. Some great songs, and some really weird stuff as well. As I mentioned in the other thread, it is all over the place style wise. The production value on this is great though, as anything Chris Goss lays his hands on is sonically golden

6.5/10 as of right now.

Justice - Cross symbol I dont know how to type (no score, yet to listen)

The New Pornographers - Challengers - 8/10 minimum based on 8 or 9 listens, have to see how it sounds after a few months.

UGK - International Players Anthem (Feat OutKast) - 8.5/10 great song

Architecture in Helsinki - Places Like This - 8.5/10 (real score), 9.5/10 (my personal score cos they're my favourite group at the moment)

Battles - Mirrored - Not listened to it enough, I can see why it gets great reviews but im not sure I could give it such a high score purely because I couldnt listen to it regularly.

Clem, has the new Montag album leaked yet do you know? I have a couple of songs but not the full thing. quite looking forward to hearing it, and seeing what the song with M83 sounds like.

I still haven't been able to get a hold of that new Ryan Adams--I'm a HUGE fan but it being a perfect album or even close to perfect is very unbelievable.
