View Full Version : Dope band and cd - Bloc Party - Weekend in the City
If you like The Killers they are similar sorta. Anyone like them and know of similar bands for me to check?
Never heard of 'em. Link?
I don't got it. I'll try and up it when I'm home. I def recommend it. I'm not a huge rock fan and only like a few bands.
They're not similar to the Killers, but they are dope.
You should check out their main inspiration from the 90's - Blur. Parklife and Modern Life Is Rubbish are the two albums the Bloc Party album is pretty much copied from, without the humour. The Arctic Monkeys are similar and less pretentious. Radiohead had a similar sound in 1995 but switched it up and have been getting weirder and weirder ever since. If you want to see where the entire British rock scene gets its influence, check out the big 4 bands of the late 60's/early 70's scene. The Kinks, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones & The Who.
Here's a list of albums you should definitely check for if you like Bloc Party though.
Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not
Arctic Monkeys - Favourite Worst Nightmare
Bloc Party - Silent Alarm (if you only have Weekend In The City)
Blur - Modern Life Is Rubbish
Blur - Parklife
Radiohead - The Bends
Radiohead - OK Computer

It always gets my goat when folks think they're dropping some exclusive knowledge.

The first Killers album was aight, but the new one is subpar..Sticking to the topic though, Bloc Party is amazing..Their debut album is the shiit, and "A Weekend in the City" is on a completely different level..I was kinda hesitant about gettin' it at first after reading some reviews on here and some other places but after hearing it I was mos def blown away..I don't really think that the arctic monkeys are a good enough comparison though..Bloc Party to me mainly on "Silent Alarm" comes off sounding like Gang of Four..Their newest album kinda reminds me of bands like South or Doves and even Ok Computer era Radiohead...
Well I checked out their latest album first before checking their other one and I like the latest a lot more. I checked out Arctic Monkeys and they are too rough around the edges for my taste. You didn't like the Killers last album? I loved it as much as the other one.

It'd make sense that you'd like The Killers then. I always liken their sound to warm air. It's real produced.

Bloc Party sound nothing like Arctic Monkeys to be fair to both bands. Radiohead as well. Nothing at all like them in fact. They're slightly wayward recommendations.
