and Nas.. well he still drop flashes of his greatness [Hold Down The Block/Can't Forget About You] but other then the rare ILL song.. he cant put out a consistanly dope album.. hasnt been able to since his first

If lost it means they're both mature grown men who act their age and don't rap about kid shyt no more that the brainwashed generation raised on 106 and Park can relate to, yeah.

Their artistic ability and mic skills haven't deteriorated, though. Maybe Jay somewhat, but I think it's more due to him just being lazy lyrically because he feels he doesn't have anything else to prove as an mc, and he has too much other shyt on his plate being a business man and all more than it is him losing "it."

Every rapper has or will fall off eventually.

K-Rino has been writing sick lyrics for 23 + years and gets iller every album
he's like Canibus on steriods lyrically except he's versatile and can make songs, so rappers dont have to fall off

Well, i aint a Jay Z fan, but i bet u mucho dinero that any rappa right now would kill to be where Jay Z is at today. For Jay to be able make millions by not improving his rap skillz is a great return on this investment.

I'm a Nas fan and for Nas to be in the game and come up with a classic album followed by dissappointments followed by a dope album followed by dissappointment and still be able to come up with dope lyrics over sometimes lackluster beats and production and still have a career and embraced by fans....... is a pretty good deal. Any rappa right now would kill be where Nas is at today.

lol yea, everytime you mention guys like Black Thought, Common, Canibus, GZA, or basically any emcee who takes time out to put some type of thought into what they are saying....it has to be considered nerd rap.....its like in the black community whenever a black man, does something and tries to sound educated he is labeled a nerd....n*ggaz never label these fake cornball gangsta rappers would would probably get the shyt kicked out of them in a real fight...nah they aiight....like i said majority of blacks and hiphop listerners are part of the new millenium minstrel show....like i said Sleep and Eat and Mantan azz nyggas

if you've been listening to there music for a long time, you should still be able to find something to appreciate. people expect too much from vets sometimes because they can't help but compare the new music to the older material. what i'm trying to say basically is that you can listen and see how they've evolved over time rather than expect another RD or illmatic.

Jay-Z still has traces of "it" as you can hear just by listening to "Black Republican" and "Lost Ones." However, he's not consistent anymore and his subject matter is "bleh." And don't get it twisted please, Jay is rapping about what these other less articulate rappers are talking about, he just puts himself on a different level.

When I read threads like "Jay-Z does it again" where people talk about how the sub par Kingdom Come grew on them and I read posts talking about Jay-Zs more mature subject matter I realize this: Jay-Z is a much better self promoter than rapper, and he is a damn good rapper. The fact that he (almost) single handedly turned himself into an entity without any major accomplishments is really amazing to me. He would have been a great cult leader.
