I would go with GOLDS over all those places.Golds is top notch. Don't waste your money on a PT unless you need someone to motivate you or don't know how to do the exercises.

Make sure the gym has all the weight (Squat Rack, Deadlift, T-Bar, ****, Leg Press) and cardio equipment you need. An indoor track is a thing of beauty a swimming pool is the icing on the cake pound for pound Golds gyms are the best.

yea that was one of my concerns

my local gym has free personal training with membership and it's all women's

BUT...i don't know if they have all the weight equipment i need to accomplish my goal

btw...what is a ****?

this is a **** squat..............Please tell me you ain't going to that gym where all the equipment is in a circle and when the trainer blows the whistle you move to a new machine. I know it's an all woman gym think it's called curves or something. My Hieracrchy of gyms is. Golds, Ballys, 24HR Fit, YMCA, Local joints.

the 4th picture down...this is a legpress and squat rack in one.if he turned the opposite way he'd be doing **** squats.

here's the deal....

gold's are franchised out. so it depends on what state you're in. the one the franchise that i work for builds 60-70,000 sq ft., 2-3 story "superclubs." just about as dope as it gets. but in other states they wont be that high end.

whatever you do DONT join balley's!!! SHADY!!! plus they're going bankrupt.

as for the others, ive heard bad things about 24 hour fitness. you cant go wrong with the YMCA, but if you're a weight lifting guy you probably wont like many YMCAs that ive been too...

honestly, coming from someone in the biz, i would go find some meathead weightroom, peel 150-250 bucks for a year, and get to work. i like dungeon type gyms....

P.S. Pay in full. don't do monthly. peel the big money up front and have less problems down the road.

i don't like those big-ass circus gyms. it's just a way to get you to pay huge monthly fees for a bunch of crap you probably won't be using. as long as the place has a good selection of dumbells and some sturdy benches and squat racks you should be straight.

i'd actually suggest a community college or university gym over anything else. most schools have membership dues that are waaay cheaper than places like gold's or l.a. fitness. like $50 for five or six months instead of $30 per month. schools also tend to have waaay more knowledgable staff around too.

IMO - Gold's is not a good gym for new gym-goers, especially women. most the people who go to gold's are hardcore work-out-aholics, if you're just trying to find your way and figure out the exercises, they can be intimidating.

never been to a bally's but they seem the same as 24hr, except the 24hours out here are more plentiful and have more classes. i go to 24hr and they have all the equipment needed for a workout, plus there's so many locations to go to - win-win situation.

i used to got to the YMCA, but depending on the size of your city, this may not be a good option. the main oakland Y is about 3 or 4 stories, pool, sauna, bball court, racketball, indoor track, cardio, weights, and classes, but it's not worth it since the Oakland location is the only good one.

can't speak on local gyms.

anyone in nyc should consider the Baruch College gym on 23rd street. Really affordable, nice gym, pool and basketball courts.

Plus One also has great gyms, but they really only cater to corporate heads and ivy league ppl.

.

depends on where you're at. but pretty much every gold's gym has went away from the muscle head scene. 85% of the clients i sign up for memberships have never even been in a gym before.... it's highly geared to families and average joes at this point.

If you have one in your area, give L.A. Fitness a walk thru. Each of their locations are fairly big and they have great equipment.

If not, I'd go with Gold's Gym as well.....

Been goin to Gold's Gym for years now and I wouldn't have it any other way. True depending on the city your in, each Gold's Gym may be different, but the only way to find out is to go in and ask to look around. The Trainers they hire are usually pretty good but once you get into a routine and up your knowledge you shouldn't have need for one anymore.
