The Misfits... only their Static Age album though. I hate that fast scream-o punk, I like my shyt melodic...
I don't think I listen to any other punk...
1 - Clash - Weren't even traditional punk after a couple of years. Really expanded definitions of the genre and they had the best, most listenable albums. Sandinista & London Calling are my sh!t.
2 - Bad Brains - Speed punk
3 - Public Image Limited - More post-punk. Who cares though, great band.

The Ruts- one of the greatest unheard of bands ever. The first punk to merge punk and reggae into their sound (even more so than The Clash and a years couple before Bad Brains). They were also one of the most musically complex punk bands ever.
Bad Brains- phemon......In my honest opinion the first "hardcore" band (before Black Flag and D.O.A). Influenced soooo many bands not even in the same genre.
Stiff Little Fingers- nuff said

i consider them metallic hardcore.
they aren't heavy enough to be metal.
too indicipherable for screamo.
Punk is a blanket term now. It includes Coverge, and it also includes Good Charlotte.
It does not just include whatever 80's bands Rolling Stone said was cool to like in the 90's.
