They sit in front me and tell me their life stories...
And inbetween the gaps I'm supposed to give direction...
In the mist of their turmoil I'm supposed to give hope...
Give them something to hold to - a life line of sorts...
I hand out tissues, give hugs to people haven't showered in weeks...
They call me Miss but I'm young enough to their daughter's daughter...
Some nights I'm totally drained and my mind can't take no more...
I'm heartbroken cause she just told me it was her uncle who touched her....
Not once but twice, til she grabbed a knife and into his heart she dug...
How do I convince her that it wasn't her fault?!...
And that within the arms of dope addiction she won't find solace...
And that when she comes down from her high she'll be lower than before...
Who am I to tell her how to escape her pain?
When some nights I escape my pain with a few drinks?
What the hell do I know about sleeping in abandoned houses?...
Using syringes that could be filled with the virus...
Going weeks without showering...
Digging in my skin cause I feel bugs crawlin...
Selling my body for just a little bit more of that powder...
Just a little bit more....
Just a little bit more....
But I keep on trying...
I keep on reminding...
That life is what you make it...
Even if it comes laced with pitfalls or setbacks, molestation to homelessness...
You gotta keep livin....
You gotta keep trying...
So I've accepted the challenge...
Of trying to save the unsaveable...
Those disrespected by society, deemed unworthy of pity...
Those considered weak and disposable....
Cause in my mind I know....
There's gotta be a reason GOD made my heart so big...
And my eyes so sincere....
So everyday I pray for strength...
As I try to fulfill My Purpose....
