View Full Version : Who in here likes SLAYER ?
back in the days when I was 10 yo I wanted to know which band makes the hardest music out there (it isnt Slayer though). Of course I stumbled over Slayer. After a few years I began to feel like this band is my very favorite metal band. I dont listen to metal anymore cause its annoying, when it comes to guitars I prefer softer sounds by a few indie rock bands for example. but sometimes I still feel like I have to listen to some ****in arrrararrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr SLAYER. I own every single album. They are genius. When Im lifting weights they are the only band that gives me some extra energy. their music is simple, the lyrics are stupid, guitar riffs are straight outta hell.
so i just wanted to know if someone else in here has some positive feelings for this band or if ya'll will be like "eeeeew this sucks - zero star band - 1 star thread" :smoker:

I hated them for years, but I finally gave in around 2001. Really fast, technical enough, great lyrics, and VERY dark. What else do u need in a good metal band?
I'm not sure why you think the lyrics are stupid. They seem pretty powerful to me.

Best metal band of all time, there is really no argument otherwise.

I say they are stupid cause they have no intellectual approach. In the beginning of their career they just wanted to shock ordinary people with satanism and gore lyrics. nowadays they keep this style perhaps they cannot do better ;)
perhaps a better solution: i dont give a fu.ck about their lyrics, they only exist as the complement to the music.

When I've tried to get into metal, I would always try to find the hardest **** out.... I tried Slayer but just wasn't feeling it, though I did learn to like Pantera and GnR (I know not very hard, but I picked it up in the learning process)

co-sign. I really can't think of any metal band on their level...if they even exist. Even alot of these new school metal/grindcore/death/black/war metal bands can't come close.

Out of respect to this thread, I won't mention the names of some other bands who are better. You guys need to fall back lol.

Yes I am talking about Metallica. I think their "metal" stuff is better than Slayer's.
Speaking of Converge, Slayer, and Metallica ... u guys heard Year of Desolation?

Let's put it that way: I insanely love "Reign In Blood" (the only metal album that rivals Metallica's best albums) and like Slayer
They never "sold out" like Metallica did, but then again they don't have the discography to compete with them (that would be like saying that Snoop is better than Cube).
Or to sum it up:
Reign In Blood = Metallica's best (and > any other metal album)
Metallica > Slayer, doesn't take anything away from Slayer

Also Death > Slayer.
Act like you know.
If Slayer could ever make Songs like Symbolic, Spirit Crusher, Crystal Mountain then that would be amazing. Shyt, to some extent Death is better than Metallica. A lot of Metallica's old songs just miss. But fukk it, all three bands are metal legends.

although I would not put Death into my top 5. They werent that good live. Slayer blows it all away with their live show.
Dio is pretty much all i need rockwise

I've never seen Death live, but the videos I have seen of them have them sounding a little weak live.

yeah, their sound is too difficult and they couldnt mix it well enough so it could sound clean. I got this life CD that came out after Chuck Schuldiner died and watched the DVD. It was horrible.
