Adjust the speed accordingly to fit your level of fitness.

Beginner-Warm up at 3.5 mph on a 0 incline for 5 mins then increase speed to 4.0 mph for 3 mins and maintain speed for the rest of the workout:
time incline
1min 2%
2min 0%
1min 4%
2min 2%
1min 6%
2min 4%
1min 8%
2min 6%

that's a 20 min workout not including a cooldown. i add a min to each leg to bring the total to 30 minutes.

by the time i get to that 8% incline i'm damn near dying. last week was my 1st time doing it. 3 sessions and i was worn out after all of them.

that looks pretty good for someone who isn't used to using the incline. I tried to get my mom to use the incline & she was dying (and she does 30 min 4mph walks 5 days a week). one of the keys when using the incline is to make sure you're not holding onto the side bars while doing it- you want to be sure you are using all your body weight to go up the incline. I typcally do anywhere from 12-15% incline (usually at slower speeds) & I can really feel it all throughout my legs.

well if you keep doing the 8% in increments, you can def build up to higher inclines. being able to do the incline is all about using & building the muscle in your legs.
