Don't know how many of you guys are into the lounge/downtempo/ Electronica scene.

But i thought i would link a couple of my favs. Most of these guys i would even consider experimental hip hop.

"Air" is a great band..i love thier shyt. you should check them out, Giles Peterson put me on to downtempo, acid jazz via his BBC show..

these subgenres are great for people who like dope beats but want more substance than what contemporary rap provides.

^You mean that French "electronica" group Air? Didn't know they fit in "downtempo/lounge/acid jazz" but I guess some of their stuff borders on that. Their album Moon Safari was basically classic and their Premier Symphonies (sp?) EP is great as well.

Yeah, Moon Safari is a great album. Air also had some good stuff on a soundtrack they did--Virgin Suicides?

Trying to draw lines between the various subgenres of electronic music, though, is a work in futility. Most electronic artists worth their weight defy categorization. It is what it is.

Yeah, Moon Safari

that's been a dilema of mine as well....the lines between downtempo, acid jazz and trip hop are not well defined, but i ain't hating, i like the crossing over of cultures.

which is why i try to research the orgins, the deejays are the key, giles and norman jay influenced these electronica groups in thier diversity..im gonna do a thread on that in the future.

like Portishead for instance, you can't limit them to trip hop, they have airy type downtempo stuff as well as jazz and hip hop influenced tunes, they are all over the place.
