not sure if these are considered trip hop, but if so i would imagine that they are the gold standard:

Yeah I'd say them and Massive Attack, but I don't listen to much trip hop.

Zero 7 incorporated a lot of trip-hop in their earlier work. Check out Simple Things, their second best album and definitely trip-hop. Strangely enough, a couple of songs from Paul McCartney's last album (Chaos and Creation in the Backyard) had trip-hop elements, especially Riding To Vanity Fair. That song is probably the best late period song (meaning 80's on) that Paul's done. Both of them were involved with Nigel Godrich - Zero 7 worked with him before he produced OK Computer and he produced that Paul album.
