Yuck. So you only eat your veggies raw?
Nah, just leafy greens. :gag: @ frying kale. That's gotta kill all the nutrients. Boiling is harsh too.

ur crazy... I'm talking about a light stir fry, not breading and deep frying the dang thing. Lots of cooked greens are TASTY: spinach, cabbage and Asian greens like bok choy and choy sum.

Kale RAW seems hella fukkn hearty; I could see adding a small handful of well-chopped kale to a salad... or raw on top of a soup (so it cooks a little) but not just chomping into it raw  unless maybe it was very, very tender... but it is such a tough veggie, I imagine it's versatile to cook with.

So how would you recommend it for those of us who dont have three stomachs to digest that ish? I bet you stay gassy huh?

My mom usually boils it with an onion and smoked turkey and seasonings.

I'm inspired by this to try it in a veggie stew. thx

a) the word "superfood" is just marketing, but kale is considered one of them (http://www.google.com/search?q=superfood+kale&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official)

b) kale is good for you regardless

c) chemical balance eh? you might wanna look into that :hmm:

Kale is a Superfood for your bones because just 1 cup of cooked kale (130g) is a top source of vitamin K (providing over 1300% of the Daily Value – 1062mcg), and an excellent source of vitamin C (providing 89% of the Daily Value) and manganese – a combination of nutrients that promote strong and healthy bones. In addition, cooked kale contains one of the highest amounts of calcium among vegetables, with over 94 mg (9.4% of the Daily Value) of calcium. While calcium is very well known for its bone benefits, researchers now believe other nutrients also play a key role in building your bones. For example, vitamin K has been linked to a reduced risk of bone fractures. The Framingham Heart Study found that people who consumed approximately 250mcg/day of vitamin K had a 35% lower risk of hip fracture compared to those who consumed 50mcg/day. Vitamin C has been linked with greater forearm bone mineral content in post-menopausal women and helps promote collagen formation (collagen is needed to build strong bones). Research also shows manganese is a cofactor for enzymes involved in the formation of healthy cartilage and bone.

have you been reading dr weil's books?

dude alwaaaaaaays mentions kale...there is a good recipe for pasta w/kale in his 'eating for optimum health' book. besides that I've cooked it up in some olive oil & garlic & also threw some into my veggie soup when I was coming off the master cleanse. the taste is pretty bitter tho...I can see how alot of people wouldn't fukk with it.

yea, he does mention it a lot, but the 8 weeks to optimum health book I have only has one sorry-sounding recipe... Seems like he overcooks stuff to me and doesnt use enough spices, but he's a lot of modifiable ideas. You like that other book? And now that you mention it, I do have a pasta recipe that uses kale that I've been meaning to try....

Apparently there are different types of kale. Weil says he MUCH prefers smooth-leaved kate to the curly one. *shrug*

kale tastes like seaweed

I dont think so... I like seaweed a lot.

AG... please do let me know if you have any interesting recipes!

Last night I just chopped some up (cant forget to cut out the thick rib in the middle), heated up some sesame oil and fried it up with low-salt soy sauce... was hella tasty (fat and salt always do wonders for health foods lol). You can really feel that stuff going through your system :O

my fave way to eat it, so far, is in a soup.

in pasta is good, too.

I think I'm gonna add it to a stir-fry tonite.
