so I actually did this & I can honestly say I feel a huge difference.
I had been doing the same cardio routine for bout 2 years now...a mix of running, stepmill, rower, bike & swimming....I started to feel like I had hit my plateau.
I'd tried the elliptical before & didn't really like it b/c I felt it wasn't challenging enough...I decided to give it another try, but this time I upped the resistance. I've done about six 40 minute sessions on it so far & I can really feel it hitting muscles that I felt my other routine wasn't.
anyone else switch up your cardio & what were your results?

When i started to do HIIT 3 to 6 times a week and at the end of the 9th or 10th week my fitness level got much better.
I basically did 2 minutes of 12 to 15 mph and walked medium-fast for a quarter mile and repeated for about 25 to 30 minutes easy at the end of that cycle.
When I played sports, flag football, basketball for extended periods of time I was able to dominate because my fitness level. The most underrated aspect of sports is fitness from what I gather. If you ask some random person what makes a good basketball or football player, fitness would probably be mentioned as the 5th most important thing, when it should be number 2.

Speaking as a semi-beginning-exerciser-person I jumped back on the elliptical yesterday after ~4months of just doing jogging for my cardio. The results I'd been getting on the elliptical BEFORE I started running seemed weak to me, compared to taking a jog, but after training at running for a little while, I appreciated the elliptical more.
For one thing, I didnt pick up a magazine while doing it(!) and was able to work it harder and faster than before. Actually felt like I got a good workout. I'm gonna keep switching it up a lil (or I should say, incorporating both) because it seems complimentary.

hey I didn't even get to read what you wrote yesterday...
for the folks who are mentioning running, don't get me wrong, running is great...I prolly run about 15 miles a week (both indoors & out)...it can be really harsh on your joints tho (although I do think hands down, if you want to burn calories...running is the way to go).
I've found swimming to be a great total body workout...I have come out of the pool with my arms literally throbbing.
I just find it really interesting that even for people who consider themselves to be in shape, trying out a different kind of cardio can be a shock to your system (in a good way)
