Back when I was actually in shape I could do about 25 proper ones. You just have to build up to it. I've never felt in better shape than when i was able to hammer out 25 pull ups. A great excercise. I need to buy me another pull up bar!

I can do about 5 sets of 7 right now...in my prime I could do like 5 sets of 15, probably more

It's great though...it builds your biceps and lats (the rear back of your rib cage)

on the marine corps physical fitness test(pft), 20 is the amount needed to get a perfect score. since we have the highest fitness standards of any of the armed forces i'd say that's a good number to shoot for. straight up and straight down, no swinging of the body and the arms must fully extend when coming down.

Yes do them everyday;and every week add another one to your set..ex.if you did reps of 6 one week then the next week do reps of 7 and so on..that's where I started..now I'm able to 10 sets of 15 reps easily..great workout...
