Death By Water (http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20070115.wxwatertor15/BNStory/International/home)
Just an FYI
Not surprised at all. Drinking too much at once can and will have negative side effects, including death. Spreading the water out evenly and feasibly over the course of a day will prevent things like this. Still, the recommended 64 oz. of water a day is good enough for the majority of people and should be followed closely. Going upwards of 1-1.5 gallons of water requires constant monitoring to ensure things like this do not happen.

I never knew the bodily fluids can get overly diluted to the point it causes death. I thought the body would end up rejecting the water and force it out, if not urination, then throwing up, but something; like the Milk challenge. I also thought the kidneys and urinary system would do a better job of water balance.
I wonder if the contestants were to intake large amounts of salt/sodium to counter the extreme hydration to keep the sodium levels somewhat normal would make a difference to the point it would prevent death.
I guess we are really susceptible to a lot of things, perhaps we wouldn't even acknowledge them.
I found that article distributing.

Sad. I remember another case of this a few years ago where a little kid ended up dying due to being forced to drink an obsessive amount of water as a punishment.

That's different. She didn't drink an obsessive amount of water. They drank "237-millilitre bottles of water to drink every 15 minutes." That is 8 ounces. So, in an hour they intake one-quarter of a gallon. So essentially, she probably took in about 1 gallon or slightly more without urinating. I'm sure when the contest was over, she surely went to the bathroom
If you also factor in that she was only 28 and no health problems, it just doesn't make sense that this incident caused her to die. I am just confused Her sodium levels must have been fairly low to begin with.

^well, take in the account that shes a lil ass white woman...
that would be like the equivalent of us BIG BLACK DUDES (no homo) drinking 3/4 - full gallon of water in an hour

64 oz is for old white people who live sedentary life styles.
It's ok to drink 2-3 gallons a day - just dont be an idiot and drink it all at the same time...
It's especially ok to drink 2-3 gallons, because most of us Americans consume much more salt than we should. Real Talk, 2 slices of Pizza contains the daily reccomended amount of Salt we should get. Only a single bag of of Doritos contains the daily recomend amount.

Yea 64 oz. for 80% of America is fine. But when you think about it, for the average American 64 oz. in itself can be a challenge to get.
I'm good with 1-1.5 gallons a day during maintenance. When I bulk or cut its a different story. I just keep drinking all day as long I know I'm above 1 gallon. I estimate I take in around 2 gallons during these phases.
As for just healthy living, I'm not constantly having to piss nor do I get light-headed and nauseous like most cats who go overboard on the water. You gotta remember you get water and fluids from food as well; as for Sodium it should be low to begin with. Unless your bulking, Sodium intake should not be high at all. People cutting or bulking usually need higher amounts of water to aid in the oxidation of fat or to keep the pipes running clean when your bulking.

But her sodium was the death of her. Sodium should be proportional to water intake. I saw a chart in my brothers medical books. I'll try to find one online.
