One of the truly great bands of all time...for me top 3 ever. Ya know I love Pariliament and Clinton's solo ish is underrated but Funkadelic are defintely his crowning achievement. Shiiit is just timeless. Obviously Maggot Brain is a classic but Free Your Mind and Standing On The Verge Of Getting It On are just as good IMO. Plus for me Eddie Hazel is greatest guitarist ever...it blows my mind he doesn't get the same love as Hendrix or even Page. Dude was a beast.

Top five P-Funk albums:

1. Maggot Brain
2. Motor Booty Affair
3. Mothership Connection
4. Standing on the Verge of Getting It On
4. One Nation Under a Groove

Yes, the early Funkadelic records are highly highly underrated and underappreciated. Fans of everyone from Hendrix and Led Zeppelin to Stevie Wonder and Sly & the Family Stone should stay tuned: Maggot Brain, Standing on the Verge, Let's Take It to the Stage, Funkadelic, Tales of Kidd Funkadelic, Cosmic Slop, Free Your Mind, Hardcore Jollies, America Eats Its Young--all great albums. We shouldn't forget Osmium (aka Rhenium), which was the first "Parliament" album--though it has much more of a hard rock early Funkadelic vibe. Other notable Parliament albums with heavy doses of that sound: Up for the Down Stroke and Chocolate City.

Greatness.

Maggot Brain and One Nation are my sh1t, but I don't have any of their other albums. George Clinton is a fukking genius though. And for heads that think Funkadelic is just a funk band, they need to realize that Maggot Brain is among the best GUITAR albums of all time. Really amazing stuff.

Only because this is a Funkadelic thread... but you right. Clones of Dr. Funkenstein is another one I'd recommend hands-down.

I went to see these guys on New Years--probably my sixth or seventh time seeing them. Best performance by Clinton I've ever seen. Maybe he's off the drugs now... or maybe he's on some new drugs....

Wasn't Mothership not a Funkadelic record either...either way that's dope. I had a chance to go see them in Amsterdam one time but it was on the day of my flight home. sucks for me.

Yeah, Mothership is Parliament, and so is Motor Booty. I started out listing my top 5 Parliament and Funkadelic. Funkentelechy is great to me (near perfect, in fact), but I like the five I listed more. Considering how different the concepts were, I figured I wouldn't blather about Parliament too much on a Funkadelic thread, though, by mentioning every great album they did... But I ended up doing that anyway. :D

I'm sure you'll get to see them again at some point. They tour in various formats constantly. [edit] Note that, without Clinton (and without a horn section), the band tours under another name--something like "Funk Mob" or something like that. Under this name, they tend to play lesser-known songs from the earlier albums. The only time I heard them play songs like "The Goose" and "Alice In My Fantasies" was at the Funk Mob show I caught a year or two ago. Gary Shider is a great frontman and Clip is a willing "bandleader", but the band does tend to meander a bit without Clinton's direction.

Top 3 band of all time. One thing I notice when listening to the music is how tip-of-the-iceberg G-funk producers were (especially Dre) were when it came to sampling P-Funk.

Cosmic Slop is somethin serious...everyone should have heard that album at least 3 times in their life
Funkadelic is easily one of my favorite bands ever...you really can't go wrong with Funkadelic albums. Even from the first album they were jammin.
Standing on the Verge of Gettin it On is also a must...and as for slow jams I'll Stay has always been my jam. Eddie Hazel is criminally forgotten by most people...brotha could jam a few levels below Jimi, Eddie was bad as fukk.

Props to thread starter for tryin to get some Funkadelic appreciation on SOHH
