I know its incredibly general and far too simple, but I'm looking for some good books on African history (I've read a few books on American History, Latin/South American history, European history) but I know very little about African and Asian history. Help me out.

Nothing specific... just looking for the most general history of the continent, if it exists. Just somewhere to start.

well, i would start with the penguin atlas of modern africa - there are minor issues with the eurocentric view of the slave trade but it's a good start IMO
