I think she's got a great voice and all but the whole hip hop thing ruins it for me, when I listen to someone with a voice as good as that it's gotta be soul music, not some R&B-Hip hop hybrid, also her verse on the touch it remix made me dislike her even more.

She's clearly one of the most talented and distinct voices of modern R&B, but I don't think she has a lot of good material. Like dude above said, her music in usually on some mediocre R&B/hip hop sh1t. She needs to work with better producers than JD for instance, even if it means selling less records. 'About You' was the best song on her new joint to me, because will.i.am really has a vision for R&B tracks. Even if she wants to be on the hip hop vibe she should get producers more along the lines of will, Saadiq, or the Soulquarians.

As far as recent singers, I'd say Alicia Keys is a lot doper. She's been killin every other female vocalist for years now.

Y'all really overhype this chic Alicia. Alicia Keys is not a particularly good singer. She is average and has a VERY limited range. What saves her is the fact that she is an excellent songwriter & can play the piano, but her voice is nothing special.

I've actually been a fan of her production for the most part, because it serves as a foil to her voice and subject matter. I like her albums too....from What's The 411? to her latest, she's delivered amazing LP after amazing LP. Shorty's nominated for eight grammys this year too...it's crazy how she's been out since 95 or so, and she hasn't even remotely fallen off since then, she's been ridiculously consistently throughout her career. She also always finds a way to reinvent herself without it looking forced...Mary J's that deal IMO
