Cause I do now.

The '80s were real.™

Rap wasn't my genre...post-punk is.

C'ot dayum...it's a new day!!!

Not as dope as Gang of Four or Wire but still listenable.

Blechhh...I know this will sound lame, but Gang of Four is too Beetle-ish. Not enough melody/harmony from what I've heard. And the lead singer has no character. I'm sure they're a great band, yadder yadder, but I can't enjoy them...

Delta 5 is real cool too. Ludus has their moments but for the most part they're just fukkin weird...

For me, a good band has the following elements:
-A crazy/memorable lead singer (The Clash/Ramones/Yeah Yeah Yeahs)
-Good melodies (Spanish Songs In Andalucia)
-Funky drum patterns (Rock The Casbah, Teenage Lobotomy)

You know any other bands like this? This is Mister Discotheque by the way.

LOL, I'm seriously thinking of starting a band called 'Follow The Leeders'

I'm not super familiar with the Beatles but aren't they always noted for their melodies? As far as Gang of Four is concerned much of their style was based on lack of melody. Random stopping, angular guitars, etc.

I can't just rock with the Jon King lacking character statement. Honestly I can't think of a rhythm section from that general time period that was dope than Gang of Four.

Gang of Four are basically the godfathers of the dance-punk/punk-funk/etc. movement. Not to mention every band that NME's sucks off.

How familiar are you with No-Wave music? It'd be worth checking out--there isn't an abundance of melody but it's still cool.

There are a host of new bands that follow in the post-punk tradition. Let me know if you want me to drop some names.

Please do. A lot of them sound the same, i.e.,

The Killers/Strokes
Interpol
Bloc Party
etc...

A few are kind of cool though. The Rakes, as derivative as they are, are pretty cool. Drop some knowledge.

And yea I guess I'll have to re-review Gang Of Four's stuff.

Yeah of the ones you listed Bloc Party and The Rakes are far and away the best. I don't think Interpol is a bad band but I can't really stay interested in 'em.

Check out:
Tom Vek, Radio 4, !!!, Moving Units, Maximo Park, Beep Beep, and The Dismemberment Plan.

Some of these the influence is very obvious and others not so much. They're all cool though. Let me know if you've heard most of those and I can give you some other names.

I was thinking right now and I'd probably position Gang of Four, Wire, and The Fall as the holy trinity of post-punk.

That's some pretty tough talk man. I will definitely check these bands out. Thanks.

Entertainment! =

I haven't hit fast forward yet and I'm halfway through it. WTF was in the water in England in the late 70s???

If you like the Au Pairs, most certanly check out some of these bands, if you haven't already -

The Slits ('Cut' - classic album)
The Delta 5
The Raincoats
Kleenex/Liliput
Girls at our Best

I was a huge fan of Huggy Bear (also worth checking out) when I was in High School, and got into all of these bands from following that sound back to the source. Good stuff.

Fixed, and

Kleenex sounds cool. Itunes is my best friend. I don't see why there aren't more bands like this with male lead singers though...or at least why there weren't that many back in the day, as opposed to now with bands like Bloc Party, Interpol, etc. I prefer the garage bandish, clipping sound of these earlier works though... the dramatic overproduction of newer stuff is a turnoff.
