Forum Merger // Let's Speak About It

In lieu of a lot of folks suggesting the merging of the Poetry Corner into the Open Mic Forum, let's consider this a formal discussion of that subject. This thread is posted at the top of the Poetry Corner as well as the Open Mic Forum.

Please state whether you are for or against a merger, and why or why not you feel that way. It is VERY important that Poetry Corner folks take part in this discussion, even if your only comment is "Hell no."

I disapprove - I like that this place has it's own space. I can come right in and read what I want with the merger I would have to skip through rap battle threads, post a diss line threads etc.

Please keep the Poetry Corner the way that it is....

I would be against the merger, reason being is that the open mic forum and the poetry corner are two enities and should remain that way. You don't see anyone trying to merge baseball with football and etc... I vote to leave well enough alone.

Nah I disapprove. the poetry corner is like a spot at a nice coffee shop. Quiet and well kept. I can come in chill drop a poem and leave.

Open mic is like Mcdonalds too many people in there all the time..

Leave Poetry corner like it is.

I think it should stay as it is. This is a cool spot when I can come and say what I need to get off of my chest and be inspired by others' writings.

Were any of you members when this forum consisted of Versus, Poetry, and Open Mic???

At that point in time SOHH was the place to be. If you all are worried about "finding" a peice or worried about skipping over a battle rap just to find your peice then you are posting in this thread for the wrong reason. I mean thats border line selfish. We all are writters or readers. Thats why we are here. You might end up liking a battle rap or an open mic peice at that or read something that inspires you. But just think of the opportunity to inspire a battle rapper to read your poetry...and like it. Thats what its all about.

I know this is sort of a secret society in here. And its nice to have your own place. But the big picture is to be peeped and appriciated. Its time to expand the horizons.

I don't think ANY of them were here when all the forums were merged...

I think the Poetry Corner has suffered more than ANY other forum and I think a merge would be a great idea to infuse more new blood...more interactions and more oppurtunities for some of these writers to be read and here different opinions..

there are only like 6 or 7 regular posters in here and I think they are all in this thread right now..

and the funny thing is this is the most active and energetic this forum has been in the last 4 years..

If I am interested in reading a battle rap or an open mic piece, I can simply click on the Open Mic forum and search to my hearts content and if they want to read my poetry or other writers in this room they can do the same thing.

And this is not a secret society! Folks come through drop their pieces, give feedback, read pieces just like any other forum on this board. Just because we want to keep it that way there's a problem?

Yes the same 8 folks come through and drop. We dont want the Rukus' and 11thousandth Individuals, and 37thVisions, and Zarbon Spittwells...etc to leave any more. We want them to stay. I think we need to form as Voltron one time...Then take it from there.

I dont think their is a problem. Everyone is just stating their opinion...youre entitled to that....And in my opinion, Open mic and Poetry forum should form as one again.

i was on this site when the OM was one massive collective, I was also here when it was split apart....

there were reasons for the split....the poets wanted to be read, the battle rappers wanted and needed a spot to battle....traffic was on the skids, so not everyone was getting the attention they deserved....

still...years after the split, traffic is still down, and the site is split among exclusive communities...in the past, the battle rappers peeped the poets and visa versa...collabs were frequent and critiques were plentiful

I'm not saying it will return to the OM's heydays, but it might improve the OM community....imagine working on a creative project with someone who normally only battles and turning them to poetry....imagine the poets expanding and writing more raps (they aren't the far apart to begin with)....

when i first started....you would have people Wordswrath, Wizeguy and myself in a collective....three different styles, or AVK, Salah and Neis (poetically inclined), there were peices that featured people of various styles, and they worked out because people respected each others styles and the prospect of creativity flourishing drove people to write their best material

just give it some thought...if the majority of the Poetry Corner don't want the merger, then it won't happen....but it is something to think about

So you think by joining the rooms those people are going to magically appear or decide to stay? If they want to drop pieces they will continue to post their work. I can only speak for myself but I go to the Open Mic Forum, hell I've even dropped a few pieces in there. Some poetry folks may not and that's their choice it shouldn't be forced upon them.

And for the record it's more than just 8 people who post in this room. Some folks just come to read and that evident from the 100+ views on pieces in this room.

you've got WAAAAY...more pieces that get Dropped and SLEPT ON in here than you have pieces with 100+ views..

and only the most popular writers in here are gonna get read...
most of those views come from the same people or the posters themselves checking to see if there are any responses on their threads..

There's been TONS of new writers that have come here...posted...been ignored and have left as a result...they wanna see their threads get 100+ replies not views...

this place is so segregated it's ridiculous...the battle nikkas don't come here...the poets don't go there..

this place NEEDS to be opened up.. :yes:

more variety equals more inspiration and thus more creativity and more INTERACTION..

this place like it or not...IS STILL DEAD..and for years it was WORSE than it is now.. I'm surprised they haven't closed it..

In all honesty someone not replying to a piece I drop isn't gonna stop me from posting but that's just me but I see what you are saying it could be a good thing or it could make folks feel like their little chill spot has been taken away.

I was still in high school scared to post anything when open mic was just open mic I like being able to come here and find the poetry that I need and want but it really doesn't matter either way I'm gonna read get inspiration and specifically look for my favorite writers so do what ya feel... Separate isn't always better

Although I'm not a poster in this forum, I am a faithful reader, and I'm against the merge....if it's not broken then don't fix it. Why merge anyway? What's the point? I'd like to think of this place as sort of a hidden gem here on SOHH....DON'T MERGE!!

i'm with a merge... i read on the regular in both... and there is A LOT that get slept on in here.... no feedback (tho i'm guilty of reading and not posting too)

that is the only thing i dont like in here- the pieces are great, but no interaction... thats why i tried that writing challange... try to get some life, and it worked, a little lol

why not open it up... aside from the readers like me, there arent too many that forum hop on this side...
