Jay-z has sold more albums only due to the amount of albums he's dropped over the years....but Jay-z has ALWAYS FAILED to do 50 cent numbers for his 1st week. KINGDOME COME was more hyped than THE MASSACRE and somehow sold less than 700 k 1st week but is not selling well AT ALL after that. jay-z saw an 81% drop after his 1st week, not good. jay-z will go no more than platinum and a half. 50 was a combo of talent and perfect timing. Without Jay, there wouldn't have been a 50, just like without Big, there wouldn't have been a Jay.

50 took what worked in the past, took advantage of his personal story (which would only work in a post Tupac and Biggie world), and combined it with catchy hooks and simple, straight forward lyrics.

Not to mention the Dr. Dre/ Eminem co-signing. Don't forget how much of an impact 50 signing with Em had.
