50 cent with his 1st album sold about 870 thousand records its 1st week.

50 Cent with his 2nd album did a shocking 1.1 million in 4 days, 1.4 million for the complete week. 1.1 million in 4 days is a hip hop record by the way.

50 Cent has group albums that have both gone platinum with ease (Beg for Mercy and the GRODT STK)

Jay-z has sold more albums only due to the amount of albums he's dropped over the years....but Jay-z has ALWAYS FAILED to do 50 cent numbers for his 1st week. KINGDOME COME was more hyped than THE MASSACRE and somehow sold less than 700 k 1st week but is not selling well AT ALL after that. jay-z saw an 81% drop after his 1st week, not good. jay-z will go no more than platinum and a half. THIS IS NOT A HATE THREAD, JAY-Z IS TOP 3 in my DEAD OR ALIVE LIST. i just want to know why Jay-Z always fails to sell 50 Cent numbers.

cause alienated white kids in the suburbs need acceptance and feel the need to belong

dressing like Marilyn Manson and wearing makeup got them beat up and herbed at school everyday

so they joined a gang to be cool and that gang was GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG-Unit

Hooks and singles...hooks and singles..50 is just the new Ja Rule as far as the white audience views it...easy to sing along with

I don't know...sh*t's been strange going lately (as far as numbers go). We'll see how numbers keep looking for some upcoming BIG releases (including 50's).

Jay's had 10 albums, I can't hate on that.

50 won't do 50 numbers. This cat just doesn't get it. You think he'll do 600k, 700k, 800k first week next time? Get a fukking CLUE. 50 Cent is D-O-N-E. Apparently you need him to drop a CD to prove it.

Jigga is 9 albums deep. 50 will be extremely lucky to go gold by his 5th and that's just honesty.

STFU!

50 was a combo of talent and perfect timing. Without Jay, there wouldn't have been a 50, just like without Big, there wouldn't have been a Jay.

50 took what worked in the past, took advantage of his personal story (which would only work in a post Tupac and Biggie world), and combined it with catchy hooks and simple, straight forward lyrics.

Not to mention the Dr. Dre/ Eminem co-signing. Don't forget how much of an impact 50 signing with Em had.

To be fair, Jay's a rapper who has always focused on album sales - so Galvy actually has a point here.

"I sold what your whole album sold in my first week"
"Dumb down my lyrics to double my dollars"
"Men lie. Women lie. Numbers don't"

So according to Jay's own logic, this says something.

that proves my point...

I'm not saying 50 doesn't have talent, I liked Power of the Dollar and his mixtapes but this thread is about album sales not talent

this thread is wack.

Jay-z has consistency he has had 10 #1 albums. Tell me another rapper who has done that.

I would rather have an artist like Jay than 50.

With the initial success of 50 - his sales will compared to his first album will always be less...lets do the math... 50 first commercial successful album (GRODT) sold 1.4 mill and on his last album (re-up) he did 230K+...so who really winning?

Jay.

galvys an idiot, but hes right here. what he said with respect to sales is true, but the jay-z stans (yes, stans) come in here and defend jay as an ARTIST, while the thread is about SALES strictly.

And to whoever said it before, re-up isnt a 50 cent album, hes one what? 3 songs, 4 maybe.

I don't understand how Jay-Z's a joke if he got 10 platinum albums and 50 only has two

In retrospect their about the same because theire the only muhfukkas on their label that have star power and can push platinum albums...with the exception of Kanye West.
